The study of an academic discipline alters the way we perceive the world. After studying the discipline, we see the same world as before, but with different eyes.

I strongly agree with the assertion of the speaker that study of a certain academic discipline changes we perspectives toward that the same world. In the following discussion, I will draw evidence from disciplines such as natural sciences, cultural anthropology and history to reveal the merits of this argument.

To begin with, in the field of natural sciences which mainly deal with the objective world around human beings, strict academic training changes our view toward the nature. For instance, daily direct experience tells people that chopsticks in a glass of water seem half broken. Whereas after studying physics, we come to know that this is a common phenomenon of reflection. Similarly, before formal academic education, we feel the earth was static, and the sun rises from the East and sets in the West. As a result, it might be tempting for us to conclude that the earth is the center around which the sun is orbiting. However, the study of modern astronomy demonstrates that the conclusion is absolutely wrong. Without academic knowledge of astronomy, it would be hard for common people to accept the fact that the Earth is rolling around the Sun. In short, academic study in natural sciences corrects our experience-based viewpoint toward the outside world.

Moreover, when it comes to culture, anthropology sharply changed our cultural perspectives. In the first place, from anthological expedition, we realize that cultural diversity is a basic character of human society. Without this awareness, people may more likely suffer from a syndrome called "cultural shock". In the second place, cultural anthropological researches drive us to recognize that we are not the only nation cherishing equality, freedom, love of country and the like. Each culture has its own tradition, custom, religion, belief system and standard of morality, ethics and behavior. Knowing these things given by anthropological study, we become more tolerable and polite when experiencing other cultures. And we can probably less use our own standard judging the behavior of others with different cultural backgrounds. In other words, anthropological studies significantly broadened our cultural horizons in comparison with before.

In addition, the study of history also changes our perceptions of this world. On the one hand, owing to historical study, we come to understand that the present is neither isolated from the past, nor severed away from the future. Every event and trend has its own beginning, developing, prospering and waning. On the other hand, it is historical study that tells us that no matter how fast the modern world changes, all human beings are consistently living in the threats of wars, poverty, diseases, etc. In this way, our understanding of the common humanity is deepened in contrast with our former level.

In conclusion, study of academic discipline truly alters our perspectives toward the natural world, our culture and our history. With the strict professional training the accumulated knowledge gained simultaneously, we can understand the world more correctly, more broadly and more deeply.

还有就是莫考的时候拼命提醒自己手不能停。
