The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society’s ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people.

提纲：
1、        不同国家的人的历史背景是不同的，因此通过他们的服饰和举止可以看出他们的民族传统和生活习惯。
2、        人们服饰风格的变化与社会价值观变化是一致的。
3、        但是，不能通过人们的眼神、举止、行为来武断的判断该社会的理念和价值观。

You can tell much about the society’s ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people. Although the way people look, dress and act reveals their attitudes and interests, it does not always work.

  Different country has different culture background, so we can judge the national traditions and life customs of its people. The national dress is a symbol of a country usually, so we can guess the nationality and even the faith of a person through it. For example, the Arab likes white and the traditional male costume is a white loose-bodied long gown, which is a kind of clothing related with their faith and their life customs. Arabs believe Islam and the country situate at western Asia where is hot and dry, therefore Arabs choose white to reflect the strong sun ray and show their loyalties. Moreover, the traditional costumes of Japan and Korea, is recognized easily too, they reveals the people there is conservative and follow rules docilely.

  The change of the dress style is coincident with the change of the society’s value. For instance, the fashion of America in the early 20th century is wasp-waisted dress, as thin as possible. It caused many actresses of Hollywood went to hospital to fetch out several ribs to make their waist become thinner, because the society then considered that thinner the waist is, more charming the girl is. However, nowadays, Americans advocate that healthier, more beautiful, so the wheat skin is the rage. The sick fashion, such as fetching out one’s ribs to own a tine waist, is abandoned by people, so the wasp-waisted dress disappeared on the historical statue and the clothes convenient, healthy and different become the fashion.

  However, we cannot tell about the society’s ideas and values by the appearance and behavior arbitrarily, because it does not work well. With the sharp development of the global information and popularity of travel aboard, the trend of the fashion and the value of people become homologous. For example, everyone wear blue jean and business suit all over the world. What’s more the information transmits too fast that once a new style appeared on the street of Paris, it would appear on the streets of the world. Hereby, we cannot judge a country only through the look, dress and act of its people, but also through the mind of its people. Because what the people think is the only believable thing to tell about the values and attitudes of a country. The exterior thing is dubitable.

  The way people look, dress and act reveals a society’s ideas and values, but it does not always work, and not always right, either. We should know a society through observing the mind of its people.
