Whether scandals are useful in politics, academia, or other areas-concerning(加个that顺畅些) they attracting(attract) our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer could, as the speaker claims? I concede that scandals, to certain degrees, actually expose some serious problems in politics, academia, and business. Otherwise, I find the speaker's position troubling. It ignores the fact that scandals such as sex scandals in entertainment and sports distract the public most attentions which should be focused on more essentially important issues.
Turning first to my agreement with the speaker's statement is that scandals always reveal the deleterious or even banal internal of one(删掉,后面的是复数) academic, political, or economical phenomena but not from(删掉reveal from its surface不通) its surface(but 后都删了也能表达很好的意思). In the first place, scandals in the politics realm, in which scandals are most focused(这里我也不会说了,再想想), are(are删掉) always expose the unknown greedy purpose of some illegitimate leadership, or even worse, the dirty and unbelievable dealings under some strategies seemingly serve to the public. Consider The Watergate scandal of President Nixon, whose contempt for the very legal system that afforded his forfeit of leadership(这个定语从句不完整). The merely(这个merely起个什么作用呢?) scandal arouse public suspiciousness-whether the president has sufficient power to harness its own election? Why our mechanisms for president election have so many flaws(用there be能顺畅点不)When the scandal comes out, our government pay(s) more attention(s) on the president leadership and the elective process. Other words, scandals which disclose the fatal flaws of our political mechanisms encourage us to modify and revise it, ultimately leads to a revolution (革命?这个有点大了)of politics.
In the second place, scandals from the academic field call our more focus on the detailed process of scientific research but not on the controversial results. Consider the recent scandal of Korean scientist. The guilty professor asked <Science> -one of the most famous and authorized magazine, to withdraw his current thesis which was proved that the results of his research is() statistically unreliable in consideration of his usage of spurious sample during the research process. Almost all the media throughout the world reported the academic scandal, and the academic circle(用field吧) responded strongly to this event. After all, it is scandals that disclose the cheating behaviors in scientific field and purify it finally.
In the third place, scandals play an indispensable role in the economic realm. They attract the public concentration on our emerging and necessary improvement on economical revolution. Consider Enron, a bankrupt company for its economic cheating behaviors as an example. It took advantage of the most arcane accounting and legal technicalities to turn deductions into earning. When the scandal was put out from the water, the government regulators immediately took actions to investigate and punish accounting violations. Moreover, the scandal arouse the energy and securities regulators to engage in the reformation in accounting rules and relevant laws, which are expected to better warrant the rights of investors.
Turn next to my contention with the speaker's statement. Nowadays, more and more scandals in entertainment and sports such as sex scandals about a famous actress or sports star, distract most our attentions from other essentially important issues. The public interests in celebrities' private lives are increasing rather than the urging environment exacerbation, energy crisis, population booming, terrorism, and etc.
To sum up, scandals unmercifully expose the internal flaws of our contemporary mechanisms in politics, economics, academia and other fields. They are also against any cheating behaviors while encouraging government regulators to reform the banal rules and relevant laws. Nevertheless, scandals that distract public attentions to celebrities' private lives render themselves meaningless. Whether scandals are beneficial to our society should be addressed on a case-by-case basis.
