TOPIC:ISSUE 11 - "All nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems."

提纲:(有保留的赞成)
1) 各国虽然具体情况不同,但是存在很多共同的问题,且很多问题有相同的根源,global university can help to establish a common ground or reach a consensus(the depletion of atmospheric ozone或green-house effect 或space exploration仅凭一个国家的经济实力难以实现需要各国合作
2)很多问题各个国家看法不同,产生矛盾,共同研究有利于增进了解。如文化冲突,发达国家和发展中国家的经济贸易争端,巴以冲突等
3)全球性大学应该注意一些问题,首先要尊重各国的观点,不能忽视parochial problems因为各国的经济实力和发展不同,解决问题的方法不同。其次,应该使每个国家的学生都能接受平等的教育。
4)倾听各国的声音,减少大国政治上的影响,使每个国家都能参与解决问题并分享研究的成果。


Is there any necessary need for all nations to support the development of a global university? The speaker claims so, for the reason that it is effective and efficient for students all over the world to engage in the world's most persistent social problems and therefore facilitate the progress of our human beings. As far as I am concerned, I strongly agree with the speaker, nevertheless, there are some points we should not overlook by establishing such a comprehensive and complicated university.

In our modern world, there are numerous and diversified social problems that are unfathomed yet. For example, the depletion of atmospheric ozone, the green-house effect which is caused by the release of carbon dioxide from most all the industry countries, and also the exploration of the unknown outsider space and etc. All of these social issues cannot be resolved only by a country even it owns strengthen economy. So it is the reason why all nations should help support the development of a global university which can help solve the permanent social problems. It will build a common ground for all the counties to discuss, study and reach a consensus on not only the parochial conflicts but also the international troubles or painstaking affairs. As we all know that comparatively critical social problems which many countries suffer have the same origination. Thus, it is necessary even desirable for all students or faculties from all over the world to come into the global university to solve these difficulties that our human face today or will face tomorrow together.

Admittedly, cultures, traditions, political climates, economic situations vary from countries to countries, as a result, the opinions given by different nations would be diversified. For instance, the countries from the third world may be disagree with the plans for exploring their limited oil resource and trading for the industry products by some developed countries. This economic contradiction would be raised and developed into some regional war. Therefore, the purpose of the global university is to forestall these similar things to happen and eliminate the current existing contradictions among several countries by effective and peaceful methods. The students and staffs from different countries bring about distinct norms, mores, values and ideas to the global university. For example, the students from Arabian countries would better understand the values and fashions about the European countries by the introductions in the university, though there are remarkable distinctions between them, and vice versa, the American students may have a further comprehension about the Asian. Based on the synthesis of various cultures and ideas, and students from the university will be more capable in solving the world's social problems such as the cultural conflicts, the trading and economic contradiction between developing countries and developed ones and the most important-the regional wars which still exist in this peaceful era.

Although a global university can be effective in solving multiple conflicts and contradictions in the contemporary world, we cannot neglect some important principles by establishing such a beneficial common platform. On the one hand, we must understand and respect the unique culture of some nation and also its extraordinary opinions-in other words, people from the comprehensive university should revere the viewpoints with some small or ever poor-economy countries. It is the basic foundation that we could sit down and discuss the world's affairs. On the other hand, the global university should provide every student the equal opportunities for studying no matter he or she comes from developing or developed nation, small or large race, and no matter rich or poor family background he or she possesses, his or her values and ideas are conventional or transcendent. Without these fundamental principles, the global university cannot function as a useful organization to humans.

Moreover, we are hard-pressed to imagine what will happen if the human-beneficial university is controlled by minority of developed countries. If this is the case, then it will become a tool for acclaiming the enforced politics or military rather than human's proud. Thus, the global university should make every country's voice heard by the world and eliminate some probable interference or corruptions. And more important, the accomplishments of researches in the global university should be shared by all the nations fairly no matter how they contribute, since it is the participation of each country that some social problems could be solved.

In conclusion, as I discussed above, I concede that the establishment of such a global university would significantly benefit human beings in solving some commonly social problems with my reservation. Nevertheless, all nations should be adherent to the basic principles such as the equality, the mutual understand and respect in the global university.
