Issue153
The speaker claims that students should bring certain skepticism to whatever they studied and they should question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively. I totally agree with this statement, although it is a little bit absolute, I still support that this kind of skepticism will bring students unbiased ideas and a certain degree of creation.

With respect to bringing certain skepticism to whatever they studied, it is obvious that skepticism, or critical thinking, helps us uncover bias and prejudice and distinguish between opinion and fact. For example, when students question what they learned in one class, they will not be fully filled with the teacher's idea which maybe incorrect and they have a chance to make a comparatively deep thinking about the whole problem, and then discover those so-called bias and prejudice and distinguish between opinion and fact. This is a prevalent situation in the educational realm.

Turning second to the creation stuff, skepticism is somewhat the starting point for creation. Famous scientists like Einstein, Newton, and Edison all grew up with numerous questions in their brain, which constituted the later creative thoughts discovered by chance. Even artists are the deputies of creators who were largely helped by questioning whatever they taught, if not, Drench would not created so many illusive masterpieces.

Even assuming that College campus is a place where teachers and students get involved in a common pursuit for knowledge and truth. It is a long customary that knowledge is the accumulation of human progress and truth is the subject based on skeptic. Thus, however knowledge accumulated or truth is flawless, students who received them should use their wisdom to think over them, at least it seems to me, if they can do this work, the results will be different-old knowledge will be new and old truth will be reassure and, the nature of students will be more resourceful.

Nonetheless, as the development of academic world, as the knowledge level become higher and higher, for instance, at a doctor level, the questions, which can be easily thought out, are much less. In such a high degree of academic level, though people bring a skeptic to whatever they learned, it is of no use in some extent, for the deeper they studied; the coastline will be harder to across. This is why people who grow older are less likely to question things they received.

In sum, it is very important for not only students but also all human being to question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively. To practice questioning may cause a certain outcome of demonstrating bias and prejudice, and of starting to create and even change old, useless value to a brand new one of practical account.

Argument 17

The author of this argument claims that Walnut Grove's town council has advocated switching from EZ Disposal to ABC Waste is a mistake, for the reason that EZ will collect trash twice a month whereas ABC still collects trash once, and although now they both have a fleet of 20 trucks, EZ has ordered additional trucks, finally, EZ gained a agreement of exceptional service from 80 percent of respondents in a survey. Close scrutiny of this evidence reveals that it lends little credible support for the author's assertion.

The author bases her claim partly on the fact that EZ collects trash twice a week but ABC still collets once. However, the author provides no evidence that collecting trash twice will better than collecting once a week, even there is no record that the residents want trash service to collect their trash more often in one week. Thus, even EZ collects trash twice a week may not be a change for the town's situation.

To further support her claim the author cites the fact that although EZ and ABC both have a fleet of 20 trucks, EZ has already ordered additional trucks. However, the author failed to make a deep scrutiny on the advantages offered by EZ's additional trucks. It is possible that the town's trash is not so much that 20 trucks may be fairly enough to keep the place clean. Moreover, maybe EZ is not so efficient as ABC, even additional trucks they had, the effectiveness of work may not enhance much. Hence, it is unnecessary to pay more money but receive no better merit.

In further support of her claim, the author points out that 80 percent of the respondents to last year's town survey agreed that they were 'satisfied' with EZ's performance. However, this evidence shows only that the respondents were 'satisfied' with EZ's performance, how about other's opinions? Furthermore, it is possible that these respondents are people who are closely related to EZ like EZ's workers, even they are not, the concept of 'satisfied' is varying according to various people, maybe people who said 'satisfied' may not be real satisfied. At last, even the number of people who did the survey is still not clear enough.

Even assuming that EZ increased its monthly fee to $2500 may cause a large problem. The author neglected to consider the town’s financial situation, which will become a big rule to choose trash service. It is very likely that the town involves in serious financial crisis and even paying $500 fee additional is very hard for them, thus, Choosing trash services whose fees are lower than EZ is very important.

In conclusion, the author lends little credible support to her claim. To persuade me that Walnut Grove’s town council should still choose EZ, the author need to provide clear evidence that the town is in a normal financial condition, the town’s trash should be collected twice a week and only once is not enough. Moreover, the author should prove that EZ is equal or more effective than ABC when using trucks to collect trash. Finally, to better evaluate the author’s claim, we would also need more information about the clear number of respondents in the survey and these respondents having no direct relationship with both EZ and ABC, and they should answer with their true feelings.

The speaker claims that students should bring certain skepticism to whatever they studied and they should question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively. I totally agree with this statement, although it is a little bit absolute, I still support that this kind of skepticism will bring students unbiased ideas and a certain degree of creation.(第一段一般要综述一下论点)

With respect to(挺新颖的,不错!) bringing certain skepticism to whatever they studied, it is obvious that skepticism, or critical thinking( I like this word^ ^), helps us uncover bias and prejudice and distinguish between opinion and fact. For example, when students question what they learned in one class, they will not be fully filled with the teacher's idea which maybe incorrect and they have a chance to make a comparatively deep thinking about the whole problem, and then discover those so-called bias and prejudice and distinguish between opinion and fact. This is a prevalent situation in the educational realm.(个人觉得学习首先是接受,然后才是提问,这是我和你不同的地方)

Turning second to the creation stuff, skepticism is somewhat the starting point for creation. Famous scientists like Einstein, Newton, and Edison all grew up with numerous questions in their brain, which constituted the later creative thoughts discovered by chance. Even artists are the deputies of creators who were largely helped by questioning whatever they taught, if not, Drench would not created(create) so many illusive masterpieces.

Even assuming that College campus is a place where teachers and students get involved in a common pursuit for knowledge and truth. It is a long customary that knowledge is the accumulation of human progress and truth is the subject based on skeptic. Thus, however knowledge accumulated or truth is flawless, students who received them should use their wisdom to think over them, at least it seems to me, if they can do this work, the results will be different-old knowledge will be new and old truth will be reassure and, the nature of students will be more resourceful.(略显偏颇,如果什么都要think over,费时费力呢~~个人观点~~

不太懂~~)This is why people who grow older are less likely to question things they received.(你是指老人不太像孩子一样去疑问吗?

In sum, it is very important for not only students but also all human being to question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively. To practice questioning may cause a certain outcome of demonstrating bias and prejudice, and of starting to create and even change old, useless value to a brand new one of practical account.
