179.The following is a memorandum written by the director of personnel to the president of the Cedar Corporation.

"It would be a mistake to rehire the Good-Taste Company to supply the food in our employee cafeteria next year. It is the second most expensive caterer in the city. In addition, its prices have risen in each of the last three years, and it refuses to provide meals for people on special diets. Just last month three employees complained to me that they no longer eat in the cafeteria because they find the experience 'unbearable.' Our company should instead hire Discount Foods. Discount is a family-owned local company and it offers a varied menu of fish and poultry. I recently tasted a sample lunch at one of the many companies that Discount serves and it was delicious-an indication that hiring Discount will lead to improved employee satisfaction."

The suggestion to hire Discount Foods instead of Good-Taste company appears to be reasonable and persuasive considering some merits of the former and issues of the later. However, the director does not recognize other essential points when comparing these two companies, therefore, the suggestion suffers from several fallacies as follows.

On the one hand, it is presumptuous for the director to assume that the food of the Good-Taste company does not deserve the expensive price and serves to the employees badly. The director fails to take into account some reasons influencing the food price, such as the marketing factor, the quality of the food, or even the nutrition in the food. Considering these possible merits of the Good-Taste company, we have good reason to believe that the food from the Good-Taste company is worth the high price. Further, the complain from the three employees is one-sided view of the services from the Good-Taste company and one should investigate this issue to find out the exact reason. It is very likely that the three employees should be responsible for that problem due to their greed and captiousness. Hence, there is no solid evidencne to support the conclusion that they should not rehire the Good-Taste company.

On the other hand, the suggestion to hire the Discount Foods is also unwarranted. The director’s advice is simply based on the mere fact that the Discount Foods offers a varied menu of fish and his/her own experience of its delicious sample lunch. Nevertheless, people vary in their favorite taste of food and it is entirely possible that most employees would not appreciate the food from the Discount Foods as the director does. Secondly, more informatin is required to prove that the Discount Foods is better. The sanitation is the most important facet one should consider since it is a family-owned company. Further, the quality, the nutrition of the food should be also taken into account when to choose a food company. Thirdly, the director does not mention the price of the food from the Discount Foods. But the price is the crucial factor he suggests not to hire the Good-Taste company, and when it comes to the Discount Foods, this factor is overlooked. From this, we can assume that the director selects to ingore this factor for the price of the Discount Foods is also very high.

All in all, this recommendation is easily arguable as we discussed above. The director overlooks or chooses to ingnore certain significant facets, like the quality and nutrition of the food, when he/she suggests which company they should hire.

先说提纲，
第1点还可以加上三年上涨的价格并不能说明以后价格会一直上涨，不会涨价，而且其他的公司可能也在相应的涨价
第2点，考虑性价比很好
还有两个很重要的漏洞：
1、3个员工的经历和抱怨不能代表所有员工的情况
2、对Discount的sample午餐的一次评价不能代表Discount食物的全部

The argument is well presented but not well reasoned. In this argument  the author conclude that: the meals provided by Discount Foods (D-F) is moor good than Good - Taste  (G-T) and hire (D-F) will improve the satisfaction of employee. At the first glance the author's reasoning seems to be logically, but clearly examining the author's reasoning you may find out it is unconvincing. The argument contains some facets that are questionable.
In the first place, the author's evidences are insufficient to this conclusion. Common seems tell us that expensive product is usually good in quality. It is obvious that its prices have risen in each last three years, however it may be will decrease this year. The author said that three employees complained for the food is experience unbearable, but one special things can not generate the general conclusion. May be most of others think the food is delicious.
In the second place, the author make an over simple evaluation by compare the two company's food. The G-T refuses provide meals for people on special diets and the D-F will offers a varied menus of fish and poultry. but will the later satisfy employees on special diet who may be dislike fish. Some other factor should be taken into account. For example how many people are on special diet, what kind of food is welcomed by employees.
Finally, the author make a false of "because of this, therefore that is ". It is unconvincing that because of many company hire D-F as food supplier, therefore we should hire them. And the author think it is delicious so that employees will think the food form D-F is delicious.:
In the all, the author's  reasoning is illogically. In order to get the conclusion that: the meals provided by Discount Foods (D-F) is moor good than Good - Taste  (G-T) and hire (D-F) will improve the satisfaction of employee, the author should provide more evidence to support the conclusion.
