issue36 我写过的最长的issue 倒了~~~
TOPIC:ISSUE 36 - "The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries."
WORDS:513 TIME:0:45:00 DATE:2006-2-19
Is it true that the greatness of individuals should be decided only by those who live after them or by their contemporaries? The speaker prefers the former. I am inclined to concur with the speaker that people living after them usually own a larger amount of knowledge or technologies to better understand the great people by the means of observing or analyzing human history and thus tend to give an access(用evaluation吧!) more precisely and disinterestedly. Nevertheless, we should never neglect the function of their contemporaries since they also assumes a significant role in discover(discovering) and reveal( revealing) the talents of those great individuals first. To further shore up my viewpoint, I would present the analysis from three perspectives as below.(这篇的开头还简要说明了自己做出选择的理由,和以前的文章不同,好!)
To begin with, when it comes to domain of science( 先谈科学领域,说明论点), it is people who live after those individuals that have more advantages to judge the fetus of a scientist or a research. I find ( out that 或者删去 there are) there are two reasons for this statement, that is, the subjective factors that associates with knowledge of people and also times. As is known to all, the talents of those great scientists always transcend the cherished principles or values of their time as well as the sphere of understanding of the public(说理). In that case, they usually bear much ridicule or even insults. The French Mathematician Galois serves to be a good example for this point. Galois, who is famous for his group theory(举群论的例子), did not receive his reputation until nearly 30 years after his death since in his period of time no one can even understand his theory. However, with the development of knowledge and skills, Galois is widely respected as the founder of standard mathematics.(论述第二点) Moreover, unlike the subjective factor, time also exert great influence on the evaluation of the greatness of individuals. For example, under the cruel spiritual restriction of Roman Catholicism in Italy, the mind of people was narrowly confined within the pursuit of divine and thus they could not accept the reality that the earth is not the center of universe which was put forward by Copernicus. If at that time the public can be instilled the spirit of questioning and creativity, Copernicus might tend to be evaluated more properly as today. In short, in consideration of both dimensions of the public and the time, it is hard for the contemporaries to provide an convincible and precise judgment of great individuals.(这点写得很精彩!举例适当,分析深入,结构明了,逻辑严谨,掌声……………)
From the perspective of politics,(然后谈政治领域) descendants, people living after those individuals, still assume a leading role in assessing their greatness for they can employ the history as a tool to comprehensively understand famous people and thereby offering an appropriate evaluation. To understand this illustration, one needs to look no further than Joseph Stalin(斯大林), who was a figure in the history of Soviet Union. During his tenure, he centralized supreme power of nation to force his people to believe that all his policies or orders will go a long way toward enhancing the overall welfare of people but not for his private purpose. People at that time were prone to catering to this powerful leader and thus took his orders without any critics and questions. However, with the time passing by, people especially historians had began to realize that most of those policies were actually for his craving of power and also his insatiable ambition, which invite huge catastrophe in Soviet Union. This example aptly shows that people living in the later times are often rendered insightful and criticizing by history and thus offer a objective and disinterested assessment.(这段写得很好!结构紧凑,语言优美,很多高级词汇的使用值得我学习……)
While it is true that people living after make great contribution to better evaluate individuals, we should never lose sight of their contemporaries(简洁的过渡河让步,好!). The realm of economy may be a typical field to justify my view. Consider those famous people, say, Bill Gates and his Microsoft or Jack Welch (这个人虽然很出名,然而以前没有去好好研究它的事迹)and his GE, which are known to people throughout our planet. With software of Microsoft, people address more efficiently and conveniently; with the appliance of GE, people feel that life can be so wonderful and magic. Both of them has greatly influence their contemporaries and in turn receive their reputation as rewards. No one in the contemporary would deny that it is their greatness and talents that precipitate the development of our society and enhance the quality of our daily life. In fact, in many other areas including the fields discussed above, there are always great individuals being discovered and rewarded by their contemporaries, such as Mark twain, who was the author of best-sellers and became a household name in the United States; George Washington, father of American has his fame from the foundation of US till now and the like. Accordingly, the contemporaries can also serve to be the discoverer of the greatness of individuals and, to some extent, judge a people immediately and relatively objectively.(这段例子丰富,这段写得也很好!)
To sum up, from the analysis above, we can confidently draw a conclusion that in evaluation the greatness of individuals, people living after them and also their contemporaries should supplement to each other: only in that way can the greatness of people be revealed and fairly assessed in the ever-changing history.
这篇写得几乎无懈可击,不论是用词还是逻辑,还有结构都有很多可圈可点的地方,绝对的高分作文,不断鼓掌!!加油~~~~
