TOPIC: ARGUMENT24 - The following appeared in a memo from the president of Viva-Tech, a manufacturer of high-tech medical equipment.
"In order to reduce costs, we should close some of our existing small assembly plants and build a large central plant. Grandview would be an ideal location for this new plant. First, of the locations that we have considered, Grandview has the largest adult population, so that we will be able to staff our plant quickly and easily. Second, since the average wage earned by workers in Grandview is less than that in the other locations, we should be able to keep production costs low. Last, as an inducement for us to build there, Grandview's town council has offered to allow us to operate for the first three years without paying city taxes."

Outlines:
1、没有证据可以说明“关掉小厂再开一个大厂”就可以减少开支;也许适得其反。
2、Grandview不一定就是理想的地点。三个证据并不充分;
A—“the largest adult population”不见得就能“staff our plant quickly and easily”;
B—平均工资低,不一定说明该医药行业工人工资也低。
C-前三年免“city”税,但三年以后的税会不会很高呢 其他种类的税呢?
The president of Viva-Tech recommends in the memo that in order to reduce costs they should close some small assembly plants and build a large central plant. Consequently, based on three additional reasons, he considers Grandview as an ideal location for this new plant. With serious consideration, we may find several logical fallacies in this argument.
Firstly, there is no evidence to support the assumption that building a large central plant instead of some existing small assembly ones could really reducing costs. As we know, neither closing nor building a factory is cheap. To close these small assembly plants they should pay the workers, who would be eventually out of job. To build a big plant they should buy new land, enroll new workers, order new machines, and so on. Things may not go as well as the president presumes, and by doing those things they may faced a financial problem.
Secondly, the three reasons, which are cited by the president, are not sufficient to strengthen his assertion. The largest adult population does not mean that the factory planned to build there would be able to staff quickly or easily, and maybe this area has already been short of labor. Evidence of the lower average wage is not enough either, maybe, unlike the others, the workers engaged in medical company have a much more earning than those of other kinds of jobs. None payment of three year's city tax is insufficient too
In sum, to make his conclusion more convincing, the president should offer some concrete research results to convince us that such measures he suggests would truely have effect. Also, more comprehensive information should be submitted to ensure that Grandview is really the first choice as a location for the major factory.
今天真的很不在状态,头疼。这个证据不足的A,有点不知道怎么组织了,三个证据都不充足,是一个一段呢还是 。。?唉,真抱歉,才300字,引以为耻! |
