38"In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books."
提纲：1. In some conditions, TV is convenient and timely to get information; and leave a deeper impression to people.

Following the development of technology, reading books is no longer the only way to learn. Many other advanced instruments are more convenient, such as television (TV) and personal computer (PC). These sets provide people more chances to get the information they want. However, is reading books not as important as it once was? I can't totally agree with speaker's assertion.
  Turning first to the debate that we can learn as much from watching TV as from reading books. Nowadays, many people get information from TV and Internet instead of books and newspapers. For former ones need less time from editing to publishing than later ones. Thus, it is more convenient and immediate to know what happened or is happening in other locations. To some extent, it is because the developments of communication that our earth is more and more like a village. When earthquake occurs in Japan, people of other continents can get information at the same time. Moreover, these sets can provide us some more vivid and optical videos that books can never do. On TV, we can learn the whole process of very subject, by watching and listening. This advantage can give us a deeper impression and harder to forget.
  However, these advanced sets also have many disadvantages. First, no matter TV or PC, they are more ponderous and need electricity. Even if portable PC, it is bigger and heavier than book. Furthermore, in the conditions without electricity, these sets can never work. On the contrary, we can read book every where and every time. Second, the TV programs always have the time limit; we cannot get what we like at free. Recently, many videos about sex and violence are spread widely. These negative things are harmful for youngsters; people can get them easily on internet. These bad factors restrain the development of TV and PC as mainstream meanings.
  On the other hand, reading books is still a good choice. Books are light and small, we can take it everywhere. While having some spare time, we can open book and read several pages. Reading book is a more healthy way than watching TV. Everyone knows that the screen is harmful for our eyes; we can't gaze at the screen for a long time. Another merit is book can illustrate us many abstract conceptions that TV cannot. Facing to those difficult formulas, books can leave us more time to think about them.
  Looking at the crowed people in bookstores and libraries we will be more convinced that reading books is still the main choice. The more technology advance, the more convenience and information people will get. Before long, people will get more choice to learn, not only by books and TV, but by many other advanced instruments.
