ISSUE51
TOPIC: ISSUE51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."
The speaker asserts that education will be effective only when it is designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student specifically. I disagree with this point of view for the reason that education not only is designed to meet the individual interests but also provides more knowledge to broad your ken and virtue culture to make someone to be a sound human.
First of all, education, as it has long been known, keeps children from illiterate and guilty. Just as Durant, a famous American historian says: Education is a progress discovery of your ignorance. Education always is classified into school education and social education. In school, teachers give students basic knowledge about nature such as physics, chemistry, geometry, mathematics and biology to assure they obtain elementary sense to the circumstance around. Arts like music and painting enlighten them to appreciate work of art aesthetically. Sports help them grow up healthy and hold enough physical strength. And social education makes them more tolerant and gritty when they deal with other people no matter friends, boss, parents, and strangers and so on. The significance of education lies in its generalization. The efficiency of education is due to its knowledgeable and generalized nature. It is not wise to design specially to meet individual needs, for it deviates from the original purpose of the education.
Secondly, over-specified education will narrow students' ken and capability of acclimation to future career. A child, for an instance, who is always eating a particular kind of food he likes best, usually grows in malnutrition, for the simple reason that he suffers from poor balanced diet. Children seldom own talents with right sense and good judgment like adults to distinguish what should be learned and beneficial to their future life and career. They always choose their concerns as their favorites blindly and neglect others which they think it useless or they are afraid of. Maybe these children would become experts in his favorite field when they grow up, but it brings the risk of limited career consequently. Education, should be a great kind and knowledgeable mother, and lead their children to experience various culture and science, and give them guidance to explore their interests against fear and ignorance. It is really true that many famous swimmers are scared of water in their childhood. In fact, many educationists suggest providing as wide as possible education to explore their unknown interests and encourage them to learn more skills for future life and career competition.
Admittedly, for an expert, individual advantages would be more competitive in his domain. So, it is necessary that education is designed specially to culture students’ aptitudes and meet their needs. However, we cannot overstate to misguide people who continue to glue their eyes on their children’s interest regardless of marginal needs indispensably.
Moreover, successful education always brings social prosperity and stability, for it brings efficiency to every one of educated people who show talents in his place in harmony. Hardly can it be imaged that our world will be if over-specified education becomes a mainstream. Thousands of people are jobless just because the ratio of one position to ten applicants has risen to one to fifty. On the contrary, some positions are always vacant because no one is for that. The whole country ought to be plunged in a mass in all probability.
To sum up, I hardly agree the speaker’s claim. Specified education is necessary but should not be aggrandized. We all need balance regardless of children or the whole country. If our generation all dislike study education in over-specified education times, how is our education going? |
