Tradition, which stands for customs, belief and mores, is the product of the elapse of time. With the advent of advanced technological age, the conflict between tradition and modernization is brought to the limelight. However, the certain incompatibilities should not blind our eyes to the inherent correlations between the two which may lie in iridescent belief, lasting customs and so forth.

In fact, tradition and modernization are essentially interrelated which has its footprints on the modern time which should not be neglected. Along the stream of history, we, though in modern age, are picking up the shells left by the sage in the past. Impressed by the notable belief "I think, therefore I am" held by Descartes, modern people esteem it as fervent conviction to think profoundly instead of grasping knowledge to a skin-deep extent, as a result of which myriads of innovations that push the society forward come into being, advancing the process of civilization. Aside from traditional belief, customs that have a remote derivation still have ubiquitous effect on our modern life, which add to our pride and dignity of belonging to some kind of cultural identity. A telling illustration is the way of celebrating the Spring Festival by the Chinese people, which involves setting off the fireworks and getting together with the family. Obviously, not only does this tradition lastingly tight up the relationship of modern people who are frequently occupied by the fast pace of life, but integrally and delicately become a must that accompanies our life. As you can see, certain traditions have disseminated their influence so deeply in our life that once without them our modern life is likely to fade its color.

However, sometimes certain traditions do plague the marvelous pace of modernization to the point that they fall down to be impediments for our progress. Traditionally, gender and racial discrimination prevail, rendering the society enmeshed into a trap which impedes our tolerance of various ideas, the respect to the overall human race and the pursuit of holistic equality. The stale traditional beliefs can hardly be in compatible accompany with modernization that demands our assimilating of advanced values. Similarly, some asinine traditional customs, like the practice of turning to the witch when caught with heavy illness once dominated some places. Fortunately, with the advent of sophisticated technology and the widely disseminated knowledge about the ongoing progress in man's cogitation about the essence of the world, humans, unlike the primitive ignorant ones, are capable of getting rid of the incompatible traditions which can definitely not co-exist with modernization.

Consequently, the weighty mission that has come to our shoulder involves aptly combining those compatible traditions with modernization and at the same time getting rid of the contrary. While Rome preserves its unique arenas as well as advances its modernization, in some other places the comparatively useless old constructions which, though, seem not consistent with the surrounding environment and thus tarnish the gorgeous prosperity of modernization are pulled down. Tradition is likely to pass on eternally and be cherished by the modern era in light of its lasting value that enhances profundity of modernization; however, those lagging the advance of civilization will definitely be abandoned. You see, we might as well decide on a case-by-case analysis.

To sum up, tradition is in one with modernization insofar as it involves, in some degrees, certain essence that is in accordance with the bearing of modernization, or if stale, it will exterminate one day. Be cautious when dealing with the two and then we are likely to enjoy the treasures brought by them.
