TOPIC: ISSUE150 - "Because of television and worldwide computer connections, people can now become familiar with a great many places that they have never visited. As a result, tourism will soon become obsolete."

It is true that the highly developed technology such as television and worldwide computer connections help us see a lot of places without visiting there by ourselves. But I strongly disagree the author's assertion that the tourism will be replaced by such technology. Although some travels such like business traveling might be reduced since the high-tech instruments enable the businessmen make deals without face by face, most traveling will not disappear, even be prosperous in the future.

At present, almost everybody experienced the convenience and happiness brought by the development of technology. As for seeing different places, we can watching the photos or videos of every corner of the world, just through a TV set, some cables, or a computer that linked to the internet in our houses or in the internet cafe. From the financial point of view, we can indeed see what we want with the least payment and shortest time.

However, if we consider the meaning of traveling, we will definitely find that people travel are not always for seeing places. Since the working people are suffered the bigger and bigger pressures in such a modern society, more and more of them tend to avoid their routine life and gain pleasures and relaxation in a different place. Traveling to a place that they never been to means a release of the heavy work. Obviously, only sitting in front of the television of the computer cannot accomplish such willingness. There are other travelers who hope to experience different custom and culture that home appliances cannot simply satisfied their needs. Those people are willing to taste the local food, talking to the local citizens, even living in the local buildings that might be much different from what they lived before. Staying at home is also impossible to satisfy such kind of needs. The third type of people whose aim for traveling is to do more exercise and breath the fresh air of the beautiful nature which also required them go out and touch the nature by themselves.

In the reality, we can also see that the tourism are becoming more and more popular with the development of the technology which is probably not disturb or decrease the tourist industry, but to increase the growth of traveling. With the introduction of different places from TV programs and internet which display the original scenery and vivid pictures, we are able to choose a lot more nice places as our travel destination. We can also get the cheaper prices of plane tickets, hotel, and traveler agencies' service by searching on the internet which allow us gain as much information as we can and choose the right one for ourselves.

There is a kind of traveling that might become obsolete for the appearance of the TV or internet, which is business traveling. Traditionally, businessmen need to negotiate or make a contract face by face. Especially for the international business, those businessmen often need to travel to the places that their contract partner located. With the help of the long distant conference that utilizing the internet, this kind of traveling is probably becoming less and less necessary.

With the development of the TV and internet connections, although the business traveling may become less than before, the whole tourism industry is probably turning to more and more prosperous, which is because the mainly purpose of the traveler should be going out to experience the real world by their own.
