一下是MSU对ps的要求
24. REQUIRED PERSONAL STATEMENT
Michigan State University is interested in learning more about your background, talents, and experiences and how you plan to apply them to your MSU education and future. Your statement may be considered as a positive
factor to enhance your admissibility, as well as for scholarship consideration. Please limit your statement to two double-spaced pages.
Suggested topics include:
• Your experience as an active citizen in your school or community and the ways in which you expect to contribute to the MSU community.
• Your experience combining academic and hands-on learning.
• Obstacles that you have encountered and how you have overcome them.
• Your interest in an MSU education and how you intend to use it to make a difference in society.
• Your experiences promoting global understanding and/or the value of diversity in society.
• A description of your work ethic and accomplishments that illustrate that ethic.

“Why you call yourself Jade!” “Oh! Popular name, it’s an unconventional era, don’t you know?” “And no one is willing to disappear in the crowd.” Yes, of course I desire to be seen. But, it is there for some specific reasons. 41

JADE
Nice, respectable, it’s what jade originally means in China. And Confucius, a well-known ancient philosopher, joined the seraphic stone and Chinese morality in the same arena. In his tradition, jade, which has five personalities, mercifulness, justice, propriety, wisdom and honesty, is like a person of noble character and integrity. Following this, I’m pursuing the good character and reminding myself with every greeting “Hi, Jade!” . 65

ACTIVE
Undoubtedly, I’m an active girl. As the director of small class plays, I arranged everyone’s work at the beginning of the week; I discussed with actors about their performing; I participated in designing posters, costumes, stage properties and scenery and tried to keep costs down; I, together with partners, adapted the English script to be suitable to our play; I invited music teachers to choose songs and played piano in person to dub in the background music; I was very proud of every prize we got. In class, I was the Chinese teacher assistant, correcting students’ homework and discussing the better teaching method with teacher are my usual jobs, sometimes, I even taught the Chinese class in the place of our teacher. From the bottom of my heart, I really like this work. 132

DIFFERENT
Almost all the Chinese education have one tragic flaw: parents are constantly in search of pride. On a dinner party, parents brag about what exceptional grades and awards their children have recently acquired. Other families retaliate with how late their children stay up at night doing homework. Even the hostess displays her son’s computer competition awards prominently in the living room. But, what happens to those parents whose children don’t excellence enough? They can’t get a word in edgeways, wishing that they were some little ash in the room. These parents, however, making their children the most pitiful ones, buy countless textbooks, dash home, and send them to the dreaded subsidiary courses or a “look-at-Wang-who-got-a-577-
entrance-exams-and-the-country-competition-in-calligraphy-and-got-into-Qinghua” lecture. Even if the shell-shocked children spare no effort, they can still hear their parents whispering in the kitchen asking why did they not get a child like Wang? The stress of these battered children is enormous. They cannot help but feel frustration, pain, and uselessness when they see that their achievements do not match up to their friends.

Then, where do the roots of this horrible situation lie? They lie, of course, within the lack of childhood education. The more sorrowful one is that based on the flaw of education, the majority, even the children themselves, agree with this cruel comparison war and try their best to fight. No interesting games, no true friendship, no happy learning, where is so-called “Golden Childhood”?

So, I die to make difference! As a country on the brink of education revolution, it needs diverse voices. ? I am in the hope that I could bring distinct thoughts to US and back to China. 288

ENDEAVOR
-15min.    “Jade! ……Hey, did you see jade? Jade!” “Here!” I wave at her. She grab me and gasp out, “Jade, CD, dance music, CD is broken…what can we do now?” I stand frozen.
-14min.    Everything stops in the second. Our powerful general slumps down in the dragon boat, his subordinates’ smile disappear; Fairies holding hands look at each other in fear. The choked silence is broken stiffly by our lovely hedge: “Our Japanese dance songs are download from Internet. Where can we find the same ones now?” They are all looking at me, the director, anxiously.
-13min.    “Ladies and gentlemen, ? (冒雨前来)thank you for your coming. The play will begin in a little while. Please……”
-12min.    “I go and buy it, now!” I murmur. “It’s impossible! We don’t have much time and you even don’t know where you could find our songs’ CD.” “Even if only a tiny ray of hope exists, I’ll make every endeavor. So, princess, give me your bike key.”
-11min.       I get on her bike and dash in the rain.

-5min.       Wet through…? glasses misted up…three CD shops and nothing

This is me, Jade. J is jade, person who I want to be; A is active, it’s my nature; D is
different, my interest in childhood education and desire to add a diverse voice and
make a difference; E is endeavor, my work ethic, make every endeavor no matter how
tiny the ray of hope is. Common name but desire to make uncommon differences!
