TOPIC: ISSUE152 - "The only responsibility of corporate executives, provided they stay within the law, is to make as much money as possible for their companies."

As the global economy booming, the economy competition is becoming more and more fierce among companies. Does the only responsibility of corporate executives is to make profit? That has been a controversial issue. Depending on their own experience, brief and emotional concern, some one may hold the opinion that the only goal of the corporate executives should be making as much profit as possible for the company. While others, including me, insist that executives should not take the profit making as their only aim to obtain in their work, they should get long view and do more than that. My point of view will be substantiated by the following discussion.
Money is not conversant in preserving the existence of a company. To ensure its prosperity and development, the company needs a brisk working structure, management structure as well as esteem in society. In order to make longer time profit and enhance the status of the company in the market, executives should devote themselves in such positive atmosphere in their company as everyone will enjoy working the company with great emotion and expectation to demonstrate their own value more. It will be the competition of talents in the new century. Suppose all the people are well esteemed and encouraged by the executives or the working structures, they would glad to stay and do their best in working, which make the most powerful strength for company to survive in any attacks and to win in any competition. More over, the public esteem of the company is also crucial in enhance the position of its product as well as the market percentage.
The vital function of those executives is to bring about an efficient and cooperative company structure. Many great companies are known for its efficiency and cooperative, such as the McDonald’s and Disney Park. Take Disney Park as an example. Disney Company has opened five big parks in the world which bring splendid services and gain public praise though out customers in different colors from diversity of countries. If one baby customer gets lost in the park, it will be quickly known by workers in every part of the park, which helps baby get back to its mother's arms as quickly as possible. From the sweepers to the transport workers, actors to shop sellers, everyone in the park take customers as their gods in providing the excellent services though working cooperatively with high efficiency. The success of the company ascribe to its executive's high management ability which make everyone play in the most effective way when working.
Admittedly, profit is important for companies. Someone may give the example of Bill Gates, who not only gain the deputy though making profit, but also give its employees great income. Nevertheless, you should not deny the company culture in Microsoft, as well as everyone's initiative due to Bill Gates' splendid foresight and talent. They hold the opinion that profit is only the auxiliary products by good management, company culture as well as social esteem. Therefore, money is only a part, not all for excusive to pursue.
In sum, executives should not only take profit as their only goal. They should devote themselves to foresights for the company, as well as provide an efficient and cooperative structure in the company. |
