TOPIC: ISSUE51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."

In this information age, education becomes more and more important to people. Recently there is a debate over whether education is effective is based on whether it is designed to match the individual needs and interests of each student. The speaker's assertion that education should be designed to meet each student's interests is reasonable to a certain extent, however, there are still some negative effects which the speaker do not mention, so I do not agree on this view totally.

Interest can be used for the motivity of studying, and discover students' potential. Studying without interests is boring and tough. Without interest doing experiment in the laboratory is just like staying in the jail. Without interests doing research in the forest or desert is just like being banished. "Interest is the best teacher." said by Albert Einstein. The best example to prove this word is the famous physical scientist Madame Curie. She spent four years on researching radioactive element in the laboratory from 1898 to 1902, and finally discovered radium from tons of slag. Interest on physics gives her enthusiasm and patience. It is interest to support her to change impossible mission into possible mission and to get success.

However, when education is really specifically designed to meet the individual interests and needs of each student, another problem comes out. It is money. To actualize this case-to-case design need a large amount of resource which might otherwise be used on more valuable aspects, such designing new teaching method, building more schools, and so on. Moreover, paying excessive attention on individual is not a good idea. In this age, cooperation and unity are two of the most essential factors to students. When students study with others, they can learn a lot of things, such as tolerance, helping each other and appreciation, which can not be understood by individual education. Hence, designing education to meet the individual need and interests of each student also have some disadvantages.

Finally, if education is just designed to meet the individual needs and interests, the knowledge student learned would be unbalanced and imcompleted. It is necessary for all students to have a series of compulsory courses. Especially during the primary and middle school period, learning some basic commonsense and conceptions in certain compulsory courses will help student to be a qualified citizens. And today the relationships among different sciences are increasingly complex. The lack of knowledge of other fields would hamper students to get success in the fields they are interested in. Furthermore, moral  education is important as well as education that students have interests in. Without the correct ethics and values, student can not be an outstanding person. Shooting in campus is a very example. Without moral education, a well-educated student in the university even could shoot other students. This fact demonstrates the significance of moral education.

In sum, whether education is truly effective attribute to students and teaching methods. Education should not be designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student cursory. Many factors are more crucial than individual interests. Educators should find a balance point between basic knowledge and individual interests.

This issue suffers from a series of poor examples and some logical flaws which render it somewhat unpersuasive as it stands:)
