Where the money is: Schools that award the most (and least) need-based aid
, P$ S4 ~4 X9 B. @; D' T5 g4 i: hNational UniversitiesThe schools at the top of this list handed out the largestneed-based financial aid packages, on average, during the 2005-2006school year. The typical aid package has three components: need basedgrants, need-based loans, and work study. In order to qualify, studentsmust file an annual aid application that demonstrates financial need.The table also lists the percentage of undergraduates receiving theaverage need-based aid package, the average need-based grant and loanawarded to undergraduates, and the average percentage of a student'sdemonstrated need that was met by the school during the 2005-2006academic year. In addition, some colleges give out merit awards, whichare based on academic ability or other talents and not on financialneed.
