Argument26
The following appeared in a memo from the chairperson of the school board in the town of Saluda.
"For the past five years, Mr. Charles Schade has been the music director at Steel City High School, and during that time the school band from Steel City High has won three regional band competitions. In addition, the quality of the music rehearsal facilities and musical instruments at Steel City High has improved markedly over the past five years. Because of such successes at Steel City High, the Saluda school board should hire Mr. Schade to plan and direct the general music education programs for the entire Saluda school system."

In the argument, the author concludes that the Saluda school board should hire Mr. Schade to plan and direct the general music education programs for the entire Saluda school system. To support this conclusion the author cites the fact that during the time when Mr. Charles Schade has been the music director at Steel City High School and the school band from Steel City High has won three regional band competitions. In addition, the quality of the music rehearsal facilities and musical instruments at Steel City High has improved markedly over the past five years. Close examination of this supporting evidence; however, show that the argument contains several factors that are questionable.
The problem of initial stage with this argument is that the promise conclusion of article said Mr. Charles Schade cans success in doing such mucus things. And the author establish the evidence to prove that during the past five years the school band from Steel City High has won three regional band competitions by Mr. Charles Schade’s direction. Moreover, we have extremely suspect about this assumption. Such as what is the situation of the general music education in Steel City High School in the past time? Whether Mr. Charles Schade did some work to make such successes at Steel City High? Or does the school really put their significant attention on general music education? Without excluding other possible reasons about Mr. Charles Schade's compatibility on general music education, the author cannot convince me that Steel City High School's success result from Mr. Charles Schade.
Another fundamental point worth considering is that only because the success of Mr. Charles Schade did at Steel City High School, yet the author provides no effective evidence to substantiate he can also achieve the same success in the entire Saluda school system. The work which did at Steel City High School is more specific and active than that manipulate for the entire Saluda school system. Actually, working at two different systems must possess different kinds of ideas and methods. Lacking such clear evidence it is totally possible that Mr. Charles Schade would not sure to control the entire Saluda school system.
Additionally, if the author can substantiate the assumptions above-mentioned, a final point involves a flaw that the loses sight of the possibility that no one can make a promise Mr. Charles Schade will bring his achievement at Steel City High School to the new area of general music education programs. Without accounting for other elements that may contribute to Mr. Charles Schade's experiences success in the entire Saluda school system, the author cannot justify the assertion that the Saluda school board should hire Mr. Schade to plan and direct the general music education programs for the entire Saluda school system.
In conclusion, the argument is logically flawed and the recommendation shows the basis of the doubtful assumption that renders it unconvincing as it stands. The author should provide direct evidence which shows what the relationship between the success of a school and the general music education. To better evaluate the reliability of the survey upon which the author recommends, we would need more information about the size and makeup of the survey's data.
