Issue103:"The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."
Is the study of history valuable only insofar as it is relevant to our daily life? Indeed, history can actively influence the common life. However, we should not underestimate the great power of history and just confine its use to daily life; actually, the study of history offers/gives/provides individuals courage and spirits, and help people avoid mistakes- both of which help us determine our lives.
History provides conventional customs and beliefs which are well established by our ancestors and have a profound influence on our daily life. Due to the historical reasons, a variety of rituals, ceremonies and festivals were preserved and handed down from generation to generation, as aptly illustrated by the celebration of the Christmas-Santa Claus, the Saint Valentine’s Day, the Thanksgiving’s Day, the National Day and so forth. Also, only through history can we understand the belief of a family formed with time, the power of a genius in the past, and even the influence of technological innovation. (这里说到基本上都是传统的延续和保持，但是好像他们如何影响人们的日常生活并没有具体提到，比如节日庆祝现在人们是怎么过的，家庭观念的维持人们现在怎么看待家庭等等，我想如果能更具体一点是否会更好？)In one sense, studying history, which offers the unique extensive evidential bases, can help us more easily understand not only the customs but also our daily life.
Besides, history can provide individuals great moral spirits (spiritual power), especially when they are bogged down in troubles. A study of demonstrable heroes(什么意思), the great men and women who successfully worked through moral dilemmas and more （some other） ordinary individuals, who presented the precious merits of human nature (e.g., confidence, persistence, diligence, courage, and constructive protest), gives individuals great encouragement; that is , whatever the business might be, learning about the past can help us come through the everyday of business (daily affair).你这一段用一个研究结果来证明论点是挺好的主意,但是读下来总觉得力度弱了些,也许是觉得说的太泛了些.
Moreover, the study of history may help people in current society avoid mistakes committed by ancestors. Take (taking) the military (action) for example, by studying lessons of the wars in the history, the wartime generals would avoid mistakes for (in) which the former has failed and therefore make a more efficient and effective strategy. Also consider a work composed by Sun Tzu who is an ancient Chinese author -" the art of war", which influence lots of military commanders and even business leaders. （这个例子好像北美范文上也有，是不是应该慎用？）It allows them to operate（少了宾语，这里） more appropriately and more effectively. Therefore, history lessons are vivid and will always admonish us not to make mistakes.
In sum, the speaker’s recognition about history should be broadened: history not only exerts a profound influence on the daily life, but also brings about（去掉）moral spirits and alertness （for us）to (overcome the) failure.
