As the world develops fast, Modernization is becoming a main topic of our society,and brings some problems relating to tradition and modernization, which somepeople think that they are incompatible and one must choose between them. But in my belief, they can coexist and contribute to the development of each other.

Tradition refers to the beliefs, values, customs, way of life, crafts, etc., that are handed down from generation to generation in a society, While modernization refers to the process of urbanization, industrialization and democratization, or in a large sense, westernization. The latter, on the surface, has nothing with the former, but we can say that if there is no tradition, there is no modernization. For example, modern industry comes from the small handmade mill,as we all know. Even nowadays, the small handmade mil or the smaller factory,which use crafts as their main working ways, is the important complement of the modern industry, especially in the developing country.

On the other hand, much traditional wisdom is still relevant and can inspire us to search for solutions to present problems. The experience and knowledge, left by our predecessor, is a valuable wealth to us. The traditional thought is still beneficial in a large field of our society such as commerce. As far as I know,a lot of people, including some celebrities in comer, are fond of a book named Strategy of Sun Zi, which is written by Sun Wu, an ancient Chinese man. And many people study the thoughts of it. How to use it effectively is popular once. This is illustrates the point that the traditional wisdoms are not only the topic on the desk, but the source where inspirations arise.

For a certainty, to some extent, some traditional things are already not well matched with the modern society, but it is rushed to say that they are incompatible. Modernization also brings us a lot of harm such as air pollution,over-population, and etc. The correct way to modernize a culture is to transform or reform its tradition rather than to uproot its tradition, for everything has two sides.

In sum, tradition and modernization are the two aspects of our society. Seeking the essential and discarding the dross is the best attitude for us to treat our tradition. Meanwhile how to utilize it is what we should consider for better.
