Issue4:"No field of study can advance significantly unless outsiders bring their knowledge and experience to that field of study."
The speaker asserts that no field of study can advance dramatically without the knowledge and experience brought by outsiders. I strongly agree with this claim, for the reason that the other fields of research can provide new technological methods and propose profound thoughts which can be applied to certain realms. Also, it is due to the development of technology and interdisciplinary communication that new areas have been explored.
Since the society is developing rapidly and new problems occur, which are much more complex, merely an isolated discipline can not solve these problems - that is, most of fields require outsiders' help//assistance. One compelling illustration involves the anthropologist's study on an ancient culture//civilization. Can he or she finish this work without the expertise of archeologists, geologists, linguists, or biochemists? Let alone these experts, even the role of astronomers can not be overlooked. Also, consider the computer science, from biology to chemistry, from mathematics to physics, from literature to art, computer exerts a profound influence on nearly all the subjects by removing a variety of forms of drudgery, such as tedious calculations or assembly line tasks. Not for the computer technology’s peerless power, almost all the subjects cannot achieve such significant advancement. Therefore, due to the problems becoming more and more complicated, it is necessary for any field of study to learn from other areas.
Besides, outsiders can provide some field of study with new thoughts which may play a very vital role in promoting the development of this field. For example, mathematics offers logical reasoning and ways of analyzing data, both of which are important to economic affairs, such as stock market and real estate. The thought of unification in physics also promotes pursue for a high generalization in all disciplines. And the study of the food chain in biology indicates a harmoniously interdependency in society. Besides, philosophy provides theoretical attitudes toward any research in any realm. Moreover, even the study of art, though seems isolated, is relevant to many realms of research. Its cognition of beauty, such as symmetric, has become the main principle of other subjects, especially physics. With these thinking patterns, researchers in other fields may be better guided and therefore the advancement may be more noticeable.
Moreover, other than these influences among different fields, new areas are explored, which originate from the appropriate mixture of elements of several fields. These disciplines include the biochemistry, physical chemistry, and the public administration. With the advent of these subjects, the boundary between certain fields has become more and more obscure and even disappears. Thus, the space of research is broadened and new approaches are invented when they interact with each other. Probably, new subjects can bring much more benefit to the whole society by filling the gap.
All in all, due to the knowledge and experience brought by other fields, most of fields of study have developed remarkably, and probably the society can be well improved.
