这篇文章, 交得迟了,写的很痛苦,找了一个比较中庸的观点,个人其实认为一边倒或许会好写一点, 没限时,Anyway了, 艺术类,对我来讲,比较难. 观点比较混乱,后面的例子也没有来得及想，想到什么就写上去了,大家帮忙拍拍吧.

It is the artist, not the critic, who gives society something of lasting value.（critic: A person who evaluates works of art, such as novels, films music, paintings, etc.）

The speaker claims that it is the artist rather than the critic, who gives society something of lasting value. This topic has long been under discussion, and from my standpoint of view, I would like to say that though artists play a vital role in contribution to leave something valuable to the society, we should not neglect the functions of the critics.

Indisputably, from ancient time to modern society, the artists, by their creative and intelligent works, have been admitted and highly recognized by the society. Artworks, whether what the incarnations might be – poem, music, painting, sculpture or drama, gives great contribution in keeping the society peace and prosperous, while give human beings the lasting value of beauty, pleasure and instruction. The Renaissance painting of Madonna and child, which shows the great spirituality of humanity; Beethoven’s fifth symphony, Fate, which moved its listeners for generations for the profound genius and its spirit of dauntless struggles with the grief and misfortune; and also the drama from Shakespeare, which leave people thoughtful thinking and far-reaching reflection of the society reality, all of those masterpieces, together with their creators, and also the glorious soul shows behind that, give the society, as well as human beings, something that will last forever.

Many people may hold the position that since the artworks are created by the artists, thus the last value to the society, if there is any, should be belonged to the artists. Critics, whom we know as the people evaluate artworks, just as an appendix to the creations of the artists. I concede that it is the artist, who makes the ideas into real production, which could be reached and understood by the audiences. While, on the other hand, there is an open topic that is the process of the creation of an artwork, only the process of turning ideas into reality? To make things more clearly, let’s divide the creation of an artwork into three steps. First maybe the period we call “conceive”, which the artists decide what to create, the following is the one we discussed just now and we may call it “cerate”, the next maybe the “refinement”. By studying the influences of critics to artists in different stages, we may better understand the function of the critics.

First of all, during the period of “conceive”, artists may base on the prototype they want to create, thinking about the better way to express them. We could not deny that there are a few artworks that were not recognized by contemporary people, but for a masterwork, which could give the society something valuable, should be understood and accepted by most of the people. Then, in the choosing of the expression method, the artists would largely be affected by the voice of the critics, which well know about the demand and inclinations of people. Also, critics may be the ones that well know the trend of the civilization, which will then reflect in the works of artists.

Furthermore, during the period of “refinement”, we may find that critics take an even important role. First, not all the works that created by the artists, through have great value, could not be recognized by the mass people, maybe it is too vague or too abstruse. Critics, who are more professional and are keen in what would be of great value, take the responsibility of find these works and then introduce them to the audiences,. Furthermore, by selecting the works that with better value, and abandon the ones that may be misguide, the critics actually lead the direction of the artworks.

To sum up, artists, by its creation and originality, contribute the society with valuable works; critics, give out the contributions to the artworks in criticism, reorganization and indication. With the endeavor of both, art has been able to achieve higher and higher in the realm of creativity.
