TOPIC: ISSUE50 - "In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach."

提纲:
1、的确,将书本上的知识同工作实际相结合,能够促进部分学科教学质量的提高。比如:电气工程,机械制造,经济学等
2、不能因此而说必须把该学科同工作实际相结合起来才能提高某个学科的教学质量
(1)对于某些faculty来说,建议是否可行?
//天文学的宇宙起源学说,理论物理,理论数学等
(2)影响到非自然学科本身的发展,这些学科更多需要的是思辨和想像(哲学,艺术,音乐)
3、促进某个学科教学质量还有许多其他的措施


Should all the faculty be necessary to take some work outside the academic world relevant to the courses they teach? Some people believe so and assert such act can help the instructors to combine their teaching with some practical experience and thus make the instruction more pragmatic and useful. In my view, it is true that pragmatism should be an integral party of certain subjects, However, it does not mean that all the faculty should be encouraged to do some social jobs. Also such method is not the unique path to improve the quality of instruction.

Admittedly, as for some subjects, combining certain working experience with the literal knowledge would conduce to the improvement of educational quality. For one thing, students would likely be active and interested in class involving some practice process. Compared to the hidebound doctrine and unanimated stuff of knowledge, experience and lecture tied up with the social practice will be more interesting and vivid. This is especially true for such subjects as electrical engineering, machinery manufacturing, economics and so on. Furthermore, as we know, truth comes from practice. It is reasonable for the educators whose special fields needs some pragmatic experience to be motivated to engage in some work related to their courses. The increasingly rapid development of science and technology today are synchronously accelerate the pace of the update in knowledge and information. In order to prepare students for their future careers and thus better to meet the demands of the society tomorrow, encouraging teachers in such fields to attend some practical jobs would be a wise suggestion. Briefly, as for certain subjects, it is indispensable to motivate such corresponding faculty to spend time working outside classroom.

However, such cases mentioned above by no means indicate that bridging practice and courses can always run well for all subjects. Actually, as for some subjects such as theoretically physics, mathematical researches, astronomy, it is neither necessary nor possible for researchers in these areas to elicit knowledge and information they need from practical working. For example, how could "the big bang" theory in astronomy be applied to a pragmatic job? All astronomers should do is to utilize some relevant equipment, analyse the phenomenon they observed and bring up their assumptions. All the steps seem only to be accomplished well through their wisdom. Furthermore, some abstract or controversial courses such as philosophy, art, or music on most occasions need imaginations or thinking rather than the combination with the practice. In a philosophy course, providing more time and freedom for students to argue some abstract philosophic issue each other will be a wiser measure to cultivate a genuine polemicist. In a word, it is necessary for the faculty to exert the implementation in accordance of various situations.

As for methods contributing to the teaching quality, they include many apart from combination with working experience, such as the long-term academic accumulation, the frequent opportunities of intercommunion, the free and tolerant academic atmosphere and so on. As we know, academic accumulation can serve as a fundament of a college or a university. Without such basis to support the building above, the enhancement of educational quality would be an utopian dream which would undoubtedly collapse ultimately. Furthermore, intercommunion between different colleges and universities can also greatly promote the development of the subjects as a whole. Through exchanging experience and instructional methods each other frankly, one educator as an individual will be clearly realized what to be improve and how to exert it. Finally, the free and tolerant academic atmosphere will further guarantee the healthy development of teaching working. Without oppressive academia, educators as researchers will face the challenge from unknown world with more passion and courage. This would conduce to the evolvement of scientific subjects. Therefore, we cannot lose sight of other factors that will exert positive influence to the quality of instruction in the classroom.

In sum, I concede that for some natural and engineering subjects, faculty in such areas should be recommended to attend some relevant working to accumulate certain practical experience and catch up with the pace of development of technology today. Nevertheless, such suggestion does not indicates that all the faculty should be required to adopt such recommendation. Enhancement of level of instruction needs the association of practice and imagination.

Also such method is not the unique (好像很喜欢这个词呢,但是我觉得用在这里有点奇怪,不如换成exclusive, only之类的好。不过可能是我个人的习惯哈)path to improve the quality of instruction.

Briefly, as for certain subjects, it is indispensable to motivate such corresponding faculty to spend time working outside classroom.(写得很充分,但是有一点空,大话很多比如真理来自于实践,用的也不错,但是后面缺少细节。可以在你说的信息变化和技术发展后面加上,抛弃了理论的只是只会被淘汰。。。另外后面还是很空地说为了使学生以后的职业。。。空,如果能更具体的说是什么使学生。。。就更好一点。比如通过参与实际工作,老师可以在课上增加实际工作的指导,并且更好的介绍知识与实际的结合,这样学生掌握的就不仅仅是空洞的知识还有实际的操作能力,对于以后求职就业有很大的好处。这一段的两个层次找得很好。我觉得还可以从一味抛弃实践的理论也,就整个社会而言无益无用这个角度说。)

语言扎实,结构清晰,整体感觉很充分。再要注意的话就是点面结合。要注意的问题都写上了。其实没有什么大的问题,不错的文,不知道哪里像a 呵呵。收获很多。
