Should all the faculty be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach, for the proper of improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, as the speaker asserts? In my view，the speaker unfairly generalizes. In some subjects, especially prevocational and professional studies, work outside the college and university is necessary in no doubt. However, in other subjects, studying inner society is unuseful, and even take some bad influence on the way of improving education quality.   .

For the majority subjects, proper studying works outside the school are very important.  These subjects include the prevocational and professional studies, examples of this typical studies include the program specialized in health science, engineering, architect , and computer science. Why do these subjects need proper study outside the academic world? Let us get down to the fundamentals and after all prevocational and professional studies, with the concrete purposes, deal with realistic issues to get them progression. In fact ,only to keep contact links with society ,the goals of these subjects are making sense, and the contents of education are attracting. A simple case in the realm of health science serves to illustrate this point. Nearly all the medical developments are base on the solutions of actually problem outside the academic world. Studies inner college and university should provide a sensitive feeling on these subjects, so that the acknowledgement and method , providing by the professors and faculties, have the identify functions to students facing to the society. That is to say , faculty need to update the acknowledge and thinking method, and joining in social study ,through spending time working outside the academic world , maybe the best choice, even the only choice.

On the other realms, especially liberal art and the fundamental science, such as history, philosophy, logic, even mathematic, physics, and so on, teachers should not involve into the social work relevant to their study. For the most important reason, these subjects are too abstract to join with the usual life. That means there maybe have not proper works, to relate with their studies intensively outside academic realm in society. If professors and faculty invest their vigor to the study outside the campus, their work are likely to  decentralize, and the views maybe turn to superficiality. That will give a bad news to the whole world, and wobble the basement of almost every subject.

In the final analysis, requiring all the faculty in college and university is a unreasonable advice, since different subjects have different goals, and also have different characteristics. For the varies subjects, professor should do proper choice .But all the subject have a same aim, giving more useful knowledge to their students, with the newest and practically knowledge , and also studying on their own study direction , for the whole human beings existing.
