How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society.

In the statement, the speaker points out that children's socializing process decides society's future, and unfortunately, we have not learned how to cultivate them so that they can bring about a better society. However, I do not agree with what the speaker says, especially about the first point.

I have to concede that how children are socialized is very important to the future of society, but it is not decisive. Children's socializing process can form them the habit of dealing with various kinds of relationship between people, which is, in society's perspective, called politics. For example, born and grown in a black people district, Martin Luther King radically experienced the racial discrimination from the white, and finally became a leader in fighting for black's right. Indeed, Martin Luther King has affected the society's development, but since the society is also composed of many other important aspects, say science, literature and art. Children's socialization process can hardly give them ideas about how to deal with things other than people. Therefore how children are socialized can not determine the future of society.

To the speaker's second point, I have to say that it is hard for us to learn how to cultivate children to assure that they can construct a better society. Just look back to China's modern history would show the difficulty. In the last decade of nineteenth century, Chinese gradually realized that the thousands of years long education system which dates back to Confucius no longer satisfy modern society's need. From then on, Chinese chronologically adopted western education style, Soviet education system and nowadays American education system, but it seemed none of them fit the real situation of China. Below this appeared phenomenon is the fact that education needs numerous trials and errors and it usually needs several or tens of years for people to evaluate the real effect of education reform. Because of this long period of education evolution, learning how to raise people to better formulate the society is really a difficult job.

Despite the fact that finding an excellent way to cultivate children is difficult, people are still progressing toward this goal. To illustrate this, let us still take an investigation into China's on-going education reform. Although Chinese met many failures in this process, their progress are also advancing in a fast ever speed, which can be seen through the continuous growing number of Chinese oversea students in America campus. At the same time, education professionals in America are also debating many confusing problems in order to promote children's cultivate result, say whether primary schools should have the same curriculum nation wide. Though there are obstacles in achieving success, this will never prevent people to explore ways to attain this goal.

In conclusion, I do not agree with the speaker's saying about children's socialization determines how the society would be. To the speaker's second point, it is true that due to education's own characteristics, people find it hard to learn a best way to raise children, but this will never stop us from attaining that goal.
