the speak claims that non-mainstream areas of inquiry are of importance for satisfying human needs that mainstream science involves little. Those human needs are particular with seeking for the alleviation of psychological stress without scientific proof. In my point view, they once did influence many aspects of people's life, and they will still be popular in the world for a long time, but people should make use of scientific method for their problem.

Since the drawn of civilization, humans have looked with wonder and awe at the world around them. When they encountered things that seemed to them deviant at that time, with the limited means and knowledge available to them, they always turned to supernatural explanations in order to appease their agony. Admittedly, to some degree, such non-mainstream areas of inquiry have help people alleviate their anxieties. For instance,  in ancient China people used to praying for rain to a god who are in charge of rain in the event of drought. If then it rained, they attributed the effect to the god. Even nowadays, in so developed American many Wall Street Brokers hire astrologers to help them at some times. The most publicized acknowledgement of astrological influence occurred after an assassination attempt on the Ronal Reagan on march 30,1981.For the next seven years his wife, Nancy, consulted a California astrologer about the most favorable times and dates for events in the president's life--the take off and landing of Air Force One, state of the Union addresses, surgery, the signing of treaties, presidential debates, even press conference. So it is evident that non-mainstream areas of inquiry did have effect on the people's life even now it is still popular.

However, such non-mainstream fields of inquiry are after all not scientific ,for they have not fundaments that can be tested through scientific methods. If people go in that way too far, which is bound to bring about serious disasters to persons and society. At the personal level, if a person with certain kind of sickness turns not to scientific treatments but to those non-mainstream inquiry, his or her  ailment will deteriorate to more serious and even delay the in-time treatment. At the society level, if there is a prevalence about superstitious in society, people will fell at loss and society is in a chaos. Although there are still phenomena that can not explained by authentic science, we should still be filled with confidence in that science will be able to explain and solve  those  confusing phenomena.

In conclusion, for now the existence of non-mainstream inquiry has its own significance, which is able to provide  comfort to people to some degree. However, it is also a double-edge weapon, we should learn to get along with its existence, but we should   turn ultimately for mainstream science to for a better life.

读一遍下来，没有发现什么错误。但觉得观点还不是很明确，或者说对vital role in society这点的阐述还不很突出。
lz的观点应该是反对的吧。但重点好像放在了前半部分的褒上面了。第二段有论述有例子，很丰富。但第三段的论述略显逊色。
关于这道题目之前有很多人讨论的，可以多多参考参考。
