"Such nomainstream areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits play a vital role in society by satisfying human needs that are not addressed by mainstream science."

观点：
基本支持，承认这些神秘学的作用，但是这些学说必须减少其某些副作用。对于科学的普及，人们会对于这些学说有正确的态度。

提纲：
1。说明这些玄学的副作用，如宿命论，反科学，易被利用等
2。由于科学不可能解释一切，而玄学给与人们一种安慰
3。由于人们不能完全掌握命运，所以这些神秘学除了给人以安慰外，还起到了给人希望的作用
4。不少玄学是劝人向善的，也事实上对社会有贡献

In general, I agree with the statement that these occults meet certain needs of human in society which those mainstream sciences cannot provide. The limitation of science and complexities of society and humanities give the chance of existence of these supernatural theories. However, we should not neglect some common jeopardizes all these occults brings about to us, if we take too much granted for it.

As a threshold matter, these occults have several fundamental factors that might be detrimental to people and even society. First, most of occults claim that each human's destiny has already been predefined, and changes little by efforts. Though this claim might be helpful to persuade people not pursue unreachable goals, it also makes people unambitious and hampers the development of society. Secondly, these occults might be easily taken advantage of to severe crimes, especially by people who go to extreme. We have learned many military conflicts by religious excuses in history and nowadays world. Thirdly, to those people who have not received well education, these occults maybe spur some people to resist science knowledge. Those people believe in the occult theory before they acquired scientific spirits. Fortunately, with the wide spread of scientific knowledge, the amount of those people are getting shrinking significantly.

Admittedly, occults have some disadvantages sited above, the existence and wide spread of them also reveals their merits in several respects. At least, they meet the needs in human nature that science and real-life cannot provide.

Considering science, which is recognized as mainstream of inquiry, people cannot deny that the more progress scientists make, the larger unknown area people touch. Since people are born to be curious of unknown world, if science cannot provide ultimate answer to it, it is reasonable for people to turn to those occults. Noted that believe those occults does not necessarily means refuse to accept scientific achievement, people usually take them as complements of science knowledge. That is why some very well educated person, even scientists themselves believe in god. Besides meeting the curiosity, their belief also conveys the respect of great nature.

As to society, in which people always facing severe competition and cruel facts, they also want to find some consolation inside. Human are social animal which means they badly need recognition of others' and society. During the pursuit, however hard they work, they probably should face their failure eventually. The failure is sometimes because of the social unfairness, policy changes or other unpredictable accidents. Questioning the reason of the failure may even makes one abandon himself. In that case, the occult can offer some spiritual consolable answers and replenish his hope. The supernatural powers may give unimaginable power to hopeless people.

In addition, we should notice that to be kind and love others are required by almost every occults. Considering the fact the people are destined to death, the world after death becomes a part of pursuit of living people. No matter the existence of such world as heaven or hell, this requirement does make contribution to social harmony and world peace.

In sum, though scientists will continue explaining away more and more phenomena thought supernatural before, the nature of science results in its limitation and the same to human nature.
