TOPIC: ISSUE4 - "No field of study can advance significantly unless outsiders bring their knowledge and experience to that field of study."
WORDS: 431          TIME: 0:45:00          DATE: 2007-1-20
Edited: 482

When psychologists won the Nobel Prize of Economics, when physicists introduced the experimental approaches in chemical studies, when artists involve into the design of computer systems, it completely reveals that the importance of layman to the development of a theory even an industry.

Lives or other forms of materials are interdependent in the nature. A gain of water has characteristics in chemic -- its integrant is element of H and O; characteristics in physics – liquid or solid or gaseous; also characteristics in biology -- its indispensable value for living. This cross-connection call for integrated ideas from various related disciplines to explore its essence, principles and how to utilize it. Chemists know how to purify the water, physicists could devise the containers to reserve it; biologists research how to improve its nutrition --- so that the application of water is superior to those devised by a specialist alone.

In retrospect, large portions of Nobel Prize were given to interdisciplines researches. The medical groups often include expert from genetics, medicines, and chemicals; the study on human mind always attract scholars in areas of neurology, physics, psychology, computer, and psychiatry. From the compounded words like biochemical, neurocognitive, physibiology, etc, it seems that no one is completely specialist and on one is completely outsider. Outsiders in one aspect would like to be specialists in another region, offering additional information to make the research integrated and comprehensive.

Since the professionals are immersing in a specific territories; the outsiders, like bystanders, look these studies from a novel viewpoint. An expert in operational panel design may only focus on the function, while an ergonomic could find the inappropriate arrangement of the button according to the human’s physical and psychological feature. This concern from another viewpoint would save a lot lives and promote the efficiency. Because professionals are always stubborn in a fixed thought, they may always fail to discover other possibilities. Like economists may pay total attention to the mathematical theorems, without considering the subjective judgment in consumption. Therefore, Kahnman, from the perspective of psychology, proposed the concept of decision, replacing the conventional assumption of rationalists. This manifests the flexibility of outsiders. Comparing to professionals, who takes the traditional ideas and phenomenon for granted; the outsiders easily question the premises and bring their points in. It is the fresh inspiration infused by the outsiders in the boundary of two fields that produce significant breakthrough.

If scientists in any fields study by their own, there would never be as so many striking findings as today. Physiologists themselves could find the relationship between human behavior and brain structure; there could be no invention of multimedia under only the endeavor of computer scientist without artists; our plan of landing on the moon would be a dream forever if only astronauts involved in the activity. Any fields of study should be open to various ideas from outside to provide compensation, support and inspiration.

When psychologists won the Nobel Prize of Economics, when physicists introduced the experimental approaches in chemical studies, when artists involve into the design of computer systems, it completely reveals that the importance of layman(这个词用的不准确,词典中是“A man who is a nonprofessional”的意思,与主题想表达的意思相差甚远) to the development of a theory even an industry.

In retrospect, large portions of Nobel Prize were given to interdisciplines researches(researchers). Outsiders in one aspect would like to be specialists in another region, offering additional information to make the research integrated and comprehensive.(和上段一样,内容还是不充实,缺少实例,如果每段都这样,人家就会觉得你只是说空话。

Any fields of study should be open to various ideas from outside to provide compensation, support and inspiration.(这些例子为什么不放到前面去详细论述呢?
