Nowadays, with the development of the modern society, the purpose of education is to teach far more than just the knowledge on textbooks, but practical one for the future career, which requires faculties in colleges and universities to work properly outside the academic world at their spare time.

As science and technology advance with rapid speed, knowledge is renewed day by day and the world around us seems to be totally different once we slip eyes. It is necessary for faculties to work outside to renew the knowledge on the textbooks and keep on pace of the changeable world as soon as possible. Otherwise, things that students work hard to learn is no more than some outdated cliché or even wrong ideas and values inapplicable to the contemporary society. As a result, faculties have the duty to work outside to discover the changes to keep the pace of the modern society.

Moreover, the ultimate purpose of education is to cultivate qualified citizens for the construction of the modern society and faculties have to imbue their students with necessary social skills gained by working outside. Why so many people spend their youth, the most charitable lifetime on campus? Because they wish to receive education. Why do they want to receive education? Because they desire for knowledge. Why do they desire for knowledge? Because they have to survive on the mundane world by themselves. In this sense, when people say education, sound like something spiritual and saint, they mean education, which prepares students for their future career in the increasingly competitive job market and make them survive by enough cashes and objects. Therefore, by working outside the academic world, teachers help their students adjust more smoothly from campus to job market.

Admittedly, undue outside work would go to the other side of the issue. On the one hand, there is no more than 24 hours each day for every faculty and they have to allocate their time to teach in classrooms and to work outside.  If outside work is more than too much, it would be entirely possible to degrade the quality of teaching. On the other hand, the society outside the academic world is colorful and even alluring. Some faculties may take this chance to make more money by the excuse of gaining some modern ideas and values to students. This makes the campus, originally exclusive to the mundane world, not as pure as it used to be. Thus, better none than undue, else the quality of teaching might be decreased and working outside would become a good excuse for earning more money.

In sum, today some of the knowledge on the textbooks would have a new meaning and then they change, while tomorrow all the students would certainly become workers in society and they have to.  Therefore, all faculties at colleges and universities are responsible to provide the latest applicable knowledge to their students and prepare them for a better career life, by spending proper time working outside the academic world relevant to their own field.
