issue159 似乎刹不住走题的车……
TOPIC: ISSUE159 - "The human mind will always be superior to machines because machines are only tools of human minds."
WORDS: 596 TIME: 1:33:26 DATE: 2007-1-29
There are many films and imaginative novels telling a similar story that mankind will be controlled as slaves by robots or machines in the future. It is not true, of course, however, these films and novels reflect a worry about the trend of people's excessive dependence on machines.很流畅的开头,不过应该花了很多时间吧? One of the most significant progresses of civilization is creating abundant amount of machines to work for people. But it is dangerous for people to be arrogant to machines and think这个词用得不太好 machines are inferior, otherwise, the imagination in the films or novels that machines will rebel against heavy exploitation and defeat human beings would come true.
Admittedly, machines are created as tools by human minds. Without the intelligence and innovation of human minds, there would be no machine.论点和论据分离了,论点是机器是人造的,论据是机器为人提供了方便Since the day our ancestors knew using stones to get fire, human beings have started to realize the importance and convenience of tools. Then several kinds of machines are invented as tools to help people. We hope water could come out automatically rather than fetching it from wells far away, and there comes water pump. We hope we could keep food from rot for a long period, and there comes refrigerator. We hope we could get rid of calculating boring and trivial data, and there comes computers.漂亮的平行结构 We do benefit from using machines to free ourselves from heavy or hard physical work.
However, we should respect machines, for the birth of a machine contributes to endeavors of numerous scientists from generation to generation. Some scientists devoted their whole lives on a particular sophisticated machine. For instance, watt spent more than 25 years on the first steam engine. After that, he was contribute himself on improve efficiency of steam engines. Moreover, a mature product usually needs many years to refine. Nowadays a huge number of people use cell phones almost everyday, which are changed from appearance to functions dramatically during a decade. Millions and millions engineers has focused on how to improve cell phones. Even a tiny chip, filled with circuits, includes the ardor and wisdom of uncountable engineers and scientists. We should keep a grateful attitude when using machines which include accumulated knowledge of mankind.
这段话有意义吗?除了增加字数。。。
Moreover, addicting to the convenience of machines would result in laziness and passivity. More and more children are accustomed to solve mathematic problems by computer, rather than by their own. Last year, a national wide survey to pupils above 10 years old indicated that more than 67% relied on computers, and even worse, 35.3% confessed that they don't know how to get results without the help of computer. The convenience and precision of computer has negative impact on critical thinking and skepticism. People tend to accept massive information from the internet passively. Many people are becoming slaves of machines, without which hardly can they keep a living. Without a microwave, they have no idea of warming food by themselves. Without a car, they resist to walk out and turn to order things from internet. Without a TV, they have no other entertainment. It is tragedy for people to lost initiative and let machines to control their lives.
sigh。。。好像也偏了
In summary, from what discussed above, a safe conclusion could be drew that even though machines are created by human beings, we can not assert that the human minds will always be superior to machines. Created by many scientists and engineers during a long period of time, machines become so complex that nearly no one could understand all principles of every kind of machines. Furthermore, machines are two-edged blades. We should use machines moderately and avoid being controlled by machines. |
