Issue38 "In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was.
People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books."
在电视机时代,阅读书籍已经没有原来那样重要了。人们从电视上学到的东西丝毫不比从书本
中学来的少。
syllabus:
I strongly disagree the statement.
I concede that in some respects, television broadcasts and videos have inherent advantage in
learning, such as recounting the current events and showing art and imagery.
However, the television cannot replace the books.
First, books are more portable than televison, not depending on electricity, batteries, broadcast
wire, and cable connection.
Secondly, books are more available in archival aspect, television is more trouble.
Moreover, you can receive serendipity during browsing a stack of books in labrary or bookstore, but
television cannot.
Finally, you can recieve balanced, complete, unfiltered information, while television broadcast is
usually filtered in order to appeal possible widest audiences.
Conclusion: Learning from both television and books is more effective and efficient way in modern society.
