According to the speaker, the video camera is more important than written records which can provides an accurate and convincing record of contemporary life in the form of documentation. I agree that a video can provides more accurate and convincing record than written records on something, however, there is more to document life than to record what we see and hear. Thus, the speaker overstates the important of the video recording as a method of documentation.

For the purpose of documenting the special events, I agree that a video record is more accurate and convincing than a written record. It can document and replay the events objectively. The event of “911”, which had made a great effect to the U.S.A., without the video recordings, we can image how was the thing happen. We can’t see how two planes crashes into the World Trade Center, how was the response with people which were in here on that time, how they escaped from the building, and so on. With the help of camera, we got this record. It is very important for the people in the world to remember the event. It is impossible for anyone, no matter how skilled the recorder is, to recount it complete and objective detail about this events. So the video camera has superiority characteristic to written records.

Although the video camera can recording our life objectively, it was still not used as frequently as written record. Because of the video cameras are too expensive for most of the people, especially in developing countries. People can’t afford a video camera. It restricts the developing of documentation in video camera. Moreover the video camera can’t records events anywhere. The written record is more convenient method of recording in many occasions.

Finally, a written record is more useful than a video record in some place. Because a video record can only provide the objectively event and absent of provide insight into the mind. The written record can provide the insight into the mind. For example, during the “911”, people can use the video recording to know what happened and what were the things going on, but can’t understand the people’s feeling, which were in the World Trade Center. Notwithstanding, the written record can provide the feeling to the people who were concerning the events. They can use words to explain the feeling about the injured people on that event. So we can see, in some place, a written record is more useful than a video record.

In sum, the speaker’s claim overstates the importance of video records in some extent. When it comes to record some events objectively, video records are accurately and convincingly. However, when we want to record some thing such like people’s emotion, people’s insight opinions, written records are more useful for us. We should make good use of technology without abandoning traditional methods. These two media can build upon one another, resulting I a multimedia testimony to modern life.
