To expedite the admissions process, the following application materials are required to be sent directly to: Ph.D./M.Phil. Programmes, Faculty of Business Administration, The ChineseUniversity of Hong Kong, Shatin, N.T.:

1. A preliminary research proposal.

2. A statement of purpose.

3. A copy of previous written work such as a thesis, research project report, or any published articles.

4. Receipt of payment of application fee.

5. One copy of Application Form.

6. One photocopy of certificates of academic/professional qualifications (e.g. university certificate of graduation, examination certificates and other qualifications). Original documents must not be sent.

7. Official transcript of academic record to be sent directly by the universities attended by the applicants. Applicants should complete the attached 'Transcript Request Form' and send it to their universities to apply for transcripts. Only transcripts in an envelope sealed by applicants' universities may be submitted by applicants.

8. Confidential recommendations from 2 referees to be sent directly by the referees not by the applicant.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants are judged on the basis of academic record and letters of recommendation.
The basic qualification necessary for admission to research postgraduate studies is a good honors degree from this University or an equivalent qualification from comparable institutions. Applicants who wish to read for the degree of MPhil should have a Bachelor's degree at 2nd class honors upper division or above, or a Master's degree if their degree is at 2nd class honors lower division. Applicants for the 4-year PhD degree should have a Bachelor's degree at 2nd class honors upper division or above and a taught Master's degree or a Bachelor's degree at first class honors. Applicants for the 3-year PhD degree should hold a Bachelor's degree at 2nd class honors upper division or above and a research Master's degree.
Applicants from institutions outside Hong Kong where the language of teaching and/or examination is not English are required to obtain a paper-based score of not less than 550 or a computer-based score of not less than 213 in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). TOEFL scores more than two years old will not be accepted. Qualifying examinations to test the applicants' ability to follow the prescribed courses may be conducted.
For applicants in the School of Business, they are required to take either GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) or GRE (Graduate Record Examinations). GMAT and GRE scores more than five years old will not be accepted.

The Rotman PhD is offered with specializations in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Operations Management, Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management, and Strategic Management, with a strong minor available in International Business. PhD programs in Economics, Industrial Engineering and Industrial Relations are offered by their respective departments at the University of Toronto. In addition, there is a collaborative PhD program in Management and Economics.
Each stage in the Program provides advanced instruction in each of the major fields and prepares individuals to undertake original research, which is presented to the School of Graduate Studies as a Doctoral Dissertation. The whole program is organized around preparing students for success in this research activity. Doctoral students are required to be at the RotmanSchool while they complete their initial two years of full-time course work. After this period, students may take up to four years to complete their thesis on a full-time or part-time basis. By the time PhD students graduate, they will have had front-line experience teaching Canada's top business students, presenting at academic conferences, and publishing research articles. In addition, students will work closely with others in the program to develop a strong network of social and professional relationships with top scholars in Rotman's many academic streams. Rotman PhD graduates are aggressively sought after by universities, government, and industry worldwide. Recently, Rotman PhD graduates have obtained tenure-track positions at some of the world's top business schools.
