Tv, as mentioned in the topic, is more and more welcomed today and play an important role in our study. But now, at least in my opinion, it can not completely substitute for books.
Admittedly, the trend of the popularize of tv seems irresistible. Many reasons cause it. Obviously, as tv integrates sound and dynamic images, it can give us a large amount of information during a certain period of time and the use of television to learn some skills and can perform more efficiently .We could easily follow the television to learn playing badminton .but for books, it seems so hard, even if just describe a single action of it.
Secondly, living in an information society, as world is changing as every tick of the clock, we need a faster and more efficient way for information transmission. Traditional books are not comparable with tv at learning about modern and current events .When an earthquake will occur in a region it's impossible to inform you by books.
Moreover, images of television is so vivid and lifelike that it must be popular, particularly can attract most of children ,many of who like to watch cartoons on tv but hate textbooks because of the heavy homework burden. For them, tv, as is more welcomed than books, may be a feasible way to acquire knowledge .take my little brother tony as an example, he used to dislike study and have a poor score, my aunt found that tony are not so disgusted to watch vcd to learn and she bought many learning vcds .in this way, just half year later, he won the second in a recent exam.
Today so important is the protection of vegetation, the increasing use of tv can help us reduce the use of paper.
However, the speaker overlooks several respects in which books are inherently superior to television.
first, as lots of painstaking efforts the author or editor pays on, books, compared with television and other media, are more systematic and comprehensive. Usually from books you can get knowledge more accurate and correct .books, especially classical works, mostly after several amendments ,are best summed up by our predecessors. They can give us a more accurate and systematic knowledge of a certain field. When mentioning biochemistry, <principle of biochemistry>, on which lehninger devoted his entire life and be revised several times, can provide us the authoritative information. Through television, it seems impossible as it stands.
Additionally, many people prefer the traditional reading habits. You can positively select the books you want to read and cross-related books can be read together. Book learning can be nearly used at any time and in any place. Such free and active mode of learning gives us a better arrangement of learning time .A recent survey shows that even after the complete popularize television. Most of us will still take book the first learning tool, because they are already accustomed to this method of study .
Lastly, in some particular region, such as the remote mountainous areas, electricity, airwaves or cable connections is not available, books can be the only choice .
All in all, as both tv and book have its inherent advantage, the optimal approach is to use both media side by side. |
