In contemporary society, a special vocation that reporters trace famous people and try hard to reveal their scandals become more and more prosperous. Actually, scandals, whether in politics, academic, or other areas can attract people's more intense concern than other forms, and to some extent, scandals are useful to individuals and our society.
With the rapid development of technology, information becomes easier to access, and in turn, such exchanges impulse the increasing rate of scandals. On the one hand, some significant inventions, such as cameras, TV, computers and ever-compassing internet, make it available for reporters to find stories behind famous figures and spread them to the world. On the other hand, people are fond of these stories because as a common sense, most populaces show great interests on the negative part of celebrities who are considered as mysterious and extra persons at most times. For that matter, to dig out scandals in any field is the main goal of many reporters. Numerous reports are involved in embarrassed private lives of famous people or unusual and shameful objective and motivation of celebrities on an crucial issue, which steal a large amount of attention from people in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could. For instance, the love affair of Bill Clinton, the former president of America, with Lewinsky has been continued to be a hot topic for a long period of time, and all most in a night, this scandal was known by people all over the world and the delightful appearance of Bill was covered by dust.
Although the existence of scandals reflects the negative part of humanity, which is despised by most people, scandals can be useful to our society due to help us recognize the dark side of humanity and revoke people's justice to fight against those bad behaviors. When it comes to academic area, through scandals, we can realize deep causes of those behaviors and then take severe and effective measures. A case of plagiarizing can illustrate this point. Recently, some famous professors and researchers who are esteemed by many students were reported to copy other's ideas. These phenomena indicate that our academic field now tends to be benefit-oriented but not science-oriented which is harmful to technology and science. To correspond these scandals, magazines appeal society to remain a pure scientific environment and acclaim that they would design a more discreet and comprehensive strategy of scrutiny.
When it comes to politics, scandals can help people to gauge credibility of governors. Citizens would be fooled by political propaganda, which promote leaders' political opinions, because most information are withhold by governors. Under this situation, scandals can leak some of those hidden information to the populaces. For instance, the water gate issue which caused the resignation of Nixon, helped citizens to revaluate the reliability of their president. Such scandals which are helpful to uncover political cabals can contribute to supervise a democratic government.
In addition, for the intensive attention caused by scandals, some individuals gained high popularity from scandals. For example, Hilton Paris, after whose sexual tapes were download freely from Internet, become a household name and favored by a lot of companies. Similarly, when a new film is going to come out, scandals between major actors and actresses are produced to attract audiences' attention.
In general, scandals can focus our intensive attention on problems in politics, academics, or other realms and benefit our society from realizing the dark sides of humanity and then adopting corresponding measures. To some individuals, especially for entertainment stars, scandals can enhance their popularity to a large degree. |
