TOPIC: ISSUE48 - "The study of history places too much emphasis on individuals. The most significant events and trends in history were made possible not by the famous few, but by groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten."
1.著名人物应该被记住
2.但历史真正的创造者是大多数人
3.大多数起的作用远大于个人
Throughout the history, there is no doubt that only few famous people are remembered by public. Admittedly, such well-known persons undeniably make great efforts to the world. But in my opinion, the emphasis is placed too much on the individuals; it is the groups of people who made the most significant events and trends in history. Unfortunately, they are forgotten by the world, because they are so common.
Undoubtedly, famous people are so significant that we should not forget them. They are usually the leaders of groups and make the decisions of their teams. The contributions of them are really important to the groups. Take Chairman Mao for example, which is considered as the founder of the People's Republic of China (PRC). As the leader of the Communist Party (CP), Chairman Mao analyzed the situation carefully; guiding with his planning the CP defeated the enemies who were much stronger than them lots of times. Finally he led Chinese people to a right way, and found the PRC. He is remembered by a great number of people, and may remember forever by the Chinese people. It is more than likely that without his right decision, Chinese people still live so hard. In a word, Chairman Mao definitely make a great contribution to China, he deserve the memory of people.
Although great people are dispensable for the society in history, the real maker of the most significant events and trends in history are groups of people; no one is able to do the whole work by oneself. So it is unfair that only few famous people can be realized. For instance, the great work Great Wall is named "a miracle in human history"; but nearly no one is able to tell the individual maker of the miracle. The only thing which can be remembered is that it is created by lots of unnamed people, many of whom lost their lives. Without them, no matter how intellect the leader was, the Great Wall was not able to be built. Of course, in this point, the society places too much emphasis on individuals.
Moreover, it is common sense that groups of people, especially the populace, play more important role in history. In many events, the famous people almost did nothing compare to the work done by groups of people, such as the World War II; millions of soldiers and common people sacrificed, only the leaders and the generals are born in mind in history. Compare to the soldiers, they hardly lost any things. Every time when a campaign begins, the persons who run in front of the army are more likely to be soldiers and the leaders are always staying in the rear. Without the leaders the armies may lose the war, but without the groups of soldiers the leaders will surely achieve nothing. Also the hardest and most dangerous works are all, if any, done by the common group, not the few people only. However, the majority of the significant events and trends in history are done by groups of people; it is obviously unjust their identities have long been forgotten.
In sum, few famous individuals may play great vital part in history. But the history is not made by them only; the study of history places too much emphasis on them. The real makers of the history are groups of people, they are more appropriate to be emphasized. |
