Can scandals be useful in politics, academia, or other areas? The speaker claims that scandals are helpful in assorted areas through focusing our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could. In my view of perspective, it is true that scandals are to some extent useful in calling our attention on several problems which is neglected, however, the deleterious effects of scandals that distract our attention from other more significant issues outweigh the benefits.

Admittedly, scandals are effective in attracting attentions from public that no speaker or reformer ever could. Consider the scandal in area of athletics above. In 2003, a football corruption (which is called black whistle) was revealed by the media in China, which drew increasing attention from the public. More and more people joined the debate of this event, which stressed great pressure on the coach who was also not candid when they were in charge of a match. Probably there is no one who has taken the football corruption into account without the scandals. In the political realm, a good example is the scandal of bribery which happened in Japan. With the revealing of the scandal that an important official bribe a multitude of treasure, more and more attention was attracted to the behavior of officials. After then, less officials dare to bribe under the public voice against corruption. In one words, no speaker or reformer have ever called our attention to the problem of corruption in the area of politics or athletics unless these two scandals showed up.

However, on the other hand, scandals sometimes result in the distraction from more significant issues of public. For instance, several years ago a famous star burned a car of a journalist who covered something negatively for her; then the following days any news with respect to this scandal will show up in the front-page instead of other more crucial issues. Such news reports present meaningless but a boring gossip. As a matter of fact, it is more beneficial if public pays more attention to the latter issues--such as the pollution of environment, the sick children in Africa, the discrimination between genders, the unemployment of the society, etc--rather than to the scandal of less significance to the society. Surly, scandals distract the attention of public from the issues which is essential to the development of society.

In addition, potential problems might occur if there are too many scandals revealed in the assorted areas. For example, in the political realm, government would suffer a sharp decline of the confidence and credit from public who witness a host of scandals revealed by media and then feel disappointed with government’s performance, which is, of course, adverse to the stabilization of the society as a whole.

All in all, in my point of view, although scandals are useful under some circumstances, however, the negative effects of scandals far outweigh the benefits. With too much emphasis on scandals, the issues that of much more significance will be overshadowed by the trifling business, which is obviously disadvantageous to the resolving of crucial problems and the development of society in the long run.

呵呵，看完了，逻辑思路挺清晰的，你的是正的少，负的多。我写的是正的多些，有个问题，你用同一个词语用的频繁，比如，reveal,而且隔的不远。可以选择用用expose,exposure啊。IN FACT,我们有些例子差不多，像腐败啊，SCANDALS不能OUTWEIGH,应该要适度。你语言功底不错呀，继续加油！！！FIGTHING....

Has the video camera become a more important form of documentation than written records? The speaker claims so, because the video camera provides such an accurate and convincing record of contemporary life. I concede that the video camera has brought much convenient to human life in modern life and it is accepted by more and more people as the same importance the written records play in the old time. Otherwise in my view, even if the video camera media is accurate and convincing record, it still has some weakness that it cannot take place of written records.

Firstly, by using the video camera form media, people can hold more information and higher quality video and audio information too in many fields. How can the video camera save the information? By storage, such as tape, hard disk, CD or flash card. In old times before 1980 when the video camera have not been widely used, nearly all the information were recorded on the paper, even words and pictures, it will be difficult to record and to transportation. Now in the recent ten years, the storage of media produced by video camera, for example flash card, has a great progress. In 1995, the storage card used in SONY video camera was 8MB, which can hold 10 less pictures or 2 minutes video. By now, SONY produces a new video camera which can record as long as 2 hours and hold more than 1000 pictures, in the same time the record of video and pictures are more quality than before. So, as more and more changes are taken place by technology, the storage of video camera will more benefit to record information, for it brings convincing and accurate record to contemporary life.

In addition, the video camera is used in many field by all background, the speed of development will be stick without video camera. First, the video camera is used to record our life, in daily life and in festivals, before the camera is widely used, a kind of documentation will be found which is used to record important information which happened during daily life or celebration, it is named diary. But now the media by written that is used to record our life was taken placed by video camera. Second, in research department, the video camera is used to record the experiment. In China Panda Research Center, to keep watch on the habit of panda, there must be 3 cameras in one room and work together. The scientists use that records to discuss and research what should be done to save the species which are in peril of extinction. So, to keep our life valuable for memory and to research, the video camera has become a more important form of documentation than written records.

However, the video camera also do some bad effect in human life, it produces a new kind of production, which has no copyright, such as books and movies. When a new movie shows some people will take a copy by recording in the theatre, and sells that to people before the movie was formally published, which will also be downloaded from internet, this leads to a fallen of income to the movie company. Even worse, because of the video camera provides such an accurate and convincing record, more and more people choose to watch this kind of movie than go to theatre. So, if there was only written that can record information, this sense will impossible happen.

So in sum, to take more and more convincing and valuable experience the video camera has played a more important place than written records has, and it also will be widely used in more field to develop the technology and the society.
