Can the greatness of individuals be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries? The speaker claims so. I completely agree with the speaker that one's success and greatness should be decided by who live after them for they who live after him will have a balance view, otherwise in my view, the balance is based on a widely known to the individuals, but in any cases.

First and basically, it is reasonable representative and objective to decide the greatness of individuals for the people who live after them and are influenced by their success in a long time. The success work, such as a invention or a discovery people who did in the easily time will do great benefit to the society and the people who live in the same age will see only the good side of the work, it is to say that they will pay less attention on the affect of the invention or discovery in the future. Take the steam engine for example, it took a great advantage to promote the production in the 18 century, and people in the same all meant that a success work ever science. However, it made pollution in air and water in the modern time as time goes by, which is recognized by human beings in the daily time more and more. So it is more valuable to make people who live in past age to decide the greatness of individuals.

In addition, to decide the greatness of individuals needs to think completely both the advantage and the disadvantage, otherwise it is only the people who live after them will fully think of them. Any one has his own history, success is one hand and evil is another hand, the people who live after them will have a fully understanding of them by researching the whole life and sometimes site a disadvantage model to critic them. Take Edison for an example, Edison, who invented the lamp and did many other meaningful work in 17 century. After researching his work by people in modern world, find that hardly any successful work he did in the last 20 years of Edison's life. What happened? Edison changed to dogmatism and refused any new ideas, So it is fair to decide a person after researching by the people in the past time.

However, the people who live in the same time will not accept the ideas and the work he did because of some opposite theory or some different knowledge. In short, the proceed of understanding is a long way to go, so it is entirely possible that people will easily accept a new theory. Take the theory of relative for an example; there are only four persons who accept the theory which is spoke out by Einstein, and even some of people said Einstein is a mad-old guy during that time. However, the critical voice seems weaker as time goes by, and more and more people becoming worship to the work Einstein did. So it is sometimes a hard work to make people in the same age accept and decide the greatness of individuals.

In sum, people who live in the after ages have a balance, fair view to show the greatness of the people in early time.
