Historically, a large number of famous figures, like famous scientists, socalologists , poets and so on, whose greatness  is decided by those who live after them, are highly valuated and praised after their death There comes a controversial issue that is it true that the power to decide one's greatness is not in the hand of the contemporaries? As far as i concerned, the greatness of individuals only can be decided by its contribution to the human, to the society, to the culture, not by the contemporaries or those who live after them.
Actually, in many cases, a individual's greatness is decided by people who live after them, that means the one who have ever contributed his live to his motherland, to his people, receive the people's recognition and glorification after he is gone. When it comes to science and technology, there are innumerous examples like this. A famous joke is prevailed among the scientists: when you think what you have done on your research have produce such great efficiency in the society that you will surely win the Nobel Price sooner or later, then please take care your health, and make sure you are still alive when the price came to you. Another example regarding the belated recognition of one's greatness is Einstein. His theory of relativity is widely accepted in the world after his first claim of the researching result. It seems ridiculous, but it do exist besides ourselves?  Why? The reason is that, previous to its recognition by the worldwide area, everything should be in a testing procedure so as to check its use and authenticity. And it is so necessary for the development of human beings in that only the true can be broadly and widely put into use in our experiment. In the contrary, if we pay no attention to the test procedure of a theory, and immediately take it as a sacred guide of our life, so just imagine what our society would be?
Admittedly, the greatness of individuals should be valuated and decided after a duration of being tested and observed, but common sense informs us that individual in the society needs to play  his social role well and look for the social recognition and reputation which play a key role in promoting the workers' passion on their job. Thus, it calls for that the greatness of individuals is more properly decided by the contemporaries. If a scientist, whose work is recommended by his motherland, and highly praised by his people, and deeply accepted by his friends, he will inevitably pursue on his further research with amazing passion. Obviously, it is consequently for our society to decide one's greatness as early as possible on the case that the recognition of this person and his/her work is reasonable and rational..
In sum, when the society is deciding the greatness of individuals, he should carefully take all the factors into consideration. Not only must we evaluate the greatness by his contribution to the human beings, but the society also should protect the rights of individual's pursuing his recognition and respect.
