in the age of television ,reading books is not as important as it once was , people can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books  


television ,a modern tool which helps human beings being increasingly closed with the society , has recently brought us into a dilemma , are reading books not as important as it once was ?  can  people learn as mush by watching television as they can by reading books ? i my point of view ,reading books are even  more important as it once was ,and gaining knowledg form books and televisions should not be mutually exclusive due the obvious characteristcs of the two means .

admittedly , the prosperous  development of mass media thought out the world has provided us a useful and efficient tool of spreading and emitting mass information.. a large amount of information are televised thought out the world , news occurred in any corner  of the world might be on the screen just a few hours later , broadcasting in several different languages in distinct regions , programs in various forms and content are provided to fulfill the masses’ demand of being more informed , and productive citizens . For example , people may not necessary to buy books on how to cook , how to dress ,how to decorate and so forth , because , such programs are already being provided by the television net  , a slightly push of the start bottom of the television would ensure the knowledge of cooking appropriately , dressing timely , and decorating beautifully .as a consequence , watching television does provide people an supplement to the see of mass information .


Nevertheless, as in the age of television , which was also characterized as rigorous competition urges people to read even more to be  qualified themselves in order to survive or to gain vantages in their competitions ,reading books are indispensable in two respects .first , books  serve far more than just few papers booked together , they serve as a company as well as of man , as Samuel once said in his article “ companionship of books ‘,”a good book may be among the best of friends , it does not turn it back upon us in times of adversity or distress , it always receive us with the same kindness ,amusing and instructing us in youth ,comforting and consoling us in age .in this highly competitive world , getting more pressured or sometimes listless , one could  for some time ,avoid the noisy world and live peacefully with their superb book companions   , talking with those greatest minds that have ever lived , sympathizing with them , enjoying with them , grieving  with them . people may feel released and can return to word with courage and efficiency . secondly , books are best containers enshrining the essence  that life could think out ,think about the great works in history , the mythology of ancient Greece , the epic of hones , the insightful theory of Einstein’s relatively , the Pythagorean power by which the number hold sway above the flux ,such knowledge ensures us better informed , enlightened human being , which uphold us in the increasingly competitive net , making sure that we are still in the game and are not supplant by the competition .

For the second question , it is relatively difficult to compare through which people will gain more  knowledge concerning the distinctive characteristics of the two means  ,yet , both of which are necessary in order to get integrate knowledge .

television provide us with everyday information ,the latest news , the  amusing entertainments , which are indispensable in our  mundane life .for instance , most of us communicate with each other on the topics of the current social issues ,for example , the exciting NBA game of last night , new policies of the government.  women exchange ideas about the latest fashion that have come out form Paris  through the television net ,Such activities just can hardly be done by  reading some books , no matter how insightful and classic the books are .

notwithstanding ,for some professional and classic knowledge ,  one have to search the knowledge form the books . the classic literatures , the ancient Greek mythology , the Aristotle ‘s metaphysics , the republic of the preeminent philosopher plato can better scrutinized in the form of books . for though the media provide us with untold advantages ,  the final driven force of which are the profit and interest of the television company ,as we can see , in the US , more popular program such as the American idol , some booming sofa opera such as the prison break , the heroes rather than programs concerning the nation’s classics , the culture , the academic are broadcasted , which are due to the profit the former can made , and the popularity the former can gained  .

all in all , we can safely come to the conclusion that in this modern society , reading books are even more important to provide us superior competitiveness and a luring home for us spiritual.In addition , to be a fully integrated man , one will need to absorb knowledge both form the books and television due to the distinctive characteristics of the two means in the modern society .
