With the development of human civilization and the promotion of people's sense of democracy,more and more scandals,no matter in the field of politics,academia,or other areas,are disclosed by our mass media.Some generally assert that scandals all can be useful to our society and they focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could.However,I contend that the situation depends on what the scandal concerned and what the people look at it.While some scandals are useful for us to tackle certain problems,some other scandals just obscure the merits of the persons involved and lead to negative effects.

Admittedly,in some certain cases,scandals do be useful to our society.What scandals usually concern about are illegal behaviors,incorrect sex and bribery of celebrities,which can prevent our society into idolatry and help to improve the democracy of our society.Some contend that public speaker or reformer also can solve this kind of problems and are in a more decent way than scandal.However,since what the speaker or reformer said are always tedious and the scandals are always vividly and interesting to satisfy people's psoychology of voyeuristic,the scandals are always more convincing.Take the famous Watergate affair for example.president Nixon was regared one of the most remarkable and excellent president in the history of America with the character of wise,integrity and honesty,however,after the Watergate affair,people got the chance to see another negative side of his personality and consequently sparked a serious debate about the importance of the political leader's moral standards.This scandal must have the function to teach the follow presidents to correct thier moral behavior all the time.

In the field of academia and sports,scandal also play a role of finding and correcting problems.In the field of academia,scandals are mainly about plagiary,fabricate experimentary data,to disclose this kind of affairs,we can regulate the behavior of our academicians and as a result lead the research of academia into an enviorment of more equality.Even in the field of sports,scandals can help us tackle many serious problems.For example,atheletes usually use excitant before the competition to acquire higher score and consequently gain more honor and money.To reveal this sordid scandals can help us build up a more equitable enviroment for the competition.

However,sometimes scandals just distract people from more profound and important problems,they even lead a pessimistic attitude of people and a latent panic to the society.In the field of politic,the sexual scandal of president Bill Clinton is a paradigmatic example.Though Clinton did an unwise sexual behavior with Monica lewinsky,and this affair did call our attention to certain issues of federal low,still we must not forget that except this personal affair,Clinton in all is qualified to be a good president.During the years of his administration,A steady rise in economy was occured and the unemployment rate was decreasing in America.Besides,if a academician has an uncorrect sexual affair,it should never publicized as a scandal,since the work of an academician is researching,whether have sexual affair or not have no relationship to his/her work.In one word,we should focus our attention on the main social responsibility of celebrities instead of the personal affairs which have nothing to do with thier job.

Since the scandals are not always useful to focus our attention on problems.A regulated or legal method should been adopted to deal with scandals,which requires both the mass media and legislators to take part in.The mass media should take a serious attitude before publish each scandal while the laws should regulate the behavior of our medias on a legal level.In a word,to encourage the report of scandals which can focus our attention on genuine critical problems while discourage the report of scandals which have negative effects to our society.
