This argument contains several facets that are questionable. First, the evidence given/mentioned in the report should be examined in many other aspects. Meanwhile, the author takes for granted obvious mistakable causal relationships. The argument also fails to address other alternative explanations. I will discusseach of these loopholes in turn.
为什么后面没有each of these loopholes?
To begin with, the author merely informs us that her classes are among the largest at the university.(It can be inferred 删去)may the speaker wants to show us that she has a nice popularity among students. Through the report, however we know nothing about the backgrounds of these her classes and the students’ true attitudes about her classes. Perhaps Most of her classes might be those classes which have been ruled to study by the university and maybe the students does actually not like her classes because of her boring or void content.
Moreover, the money she has brought to the university in research grants has exceeded her salary in each of the last two years. But she has worked in this university over 17 years, what is about the other 15 years? We cannot know from this report. Even if she did well in last 17 years, can she do a good job at the new post as Department Chairperson in the future? She might do well in researching and teaching, but not in managing the daily things about the Department.
Finally, the author assumes that without such a raise and promotion, Professor Thomas will leave for another college. However, until we read over the report there is no evidence shows that this will happen in the foreseeable future. As far as I concerned, a good professor does not leave his or her students or the famous work place only for a high reward or a powerful position.?really? Even if the fact (she) is that, the university should promote the instruments and environments for her researching and living (why? 你怎么知道她需要这些?).
In conclusion, the argument, which seems logical at first, has several flaws as discussed above. The argument can be improved by providing evidence that the correlation is indeed a causal relationship—that most of her students like her and her classes and she complained about her reward and powerless position.
论证过程可以
但开头与你的论证好像有点脱节,看了开头感觉你要从//1 the evidence given/mentioned in the report should be examined in many other aspects. //2 the author takes for granted obvious mistakable causal relationships. //3The argument also fails to address other alternative explanations.//这三方面入手,但论证的时候好像关联性不强。 |
