103T "The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives."
提纲：
1、不可否认一些历史的价值已经不能够适应现代的高科技时代了(the rapid change of technological advance have made many historical events and lessons have little values in modern society)
2、历史在解释和理解人类的一些行为方面起着非常大的作用,与我们的日常生活密切相关.
3、此外，历史能够提供民族或者国家的特性。
4、大部分的历史事实能够帮助人们认识社会的发展历程，并总结出发展的规律，在社会发展中提供指导。

正文：
The speaker asserts that the study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives. I don’t quite agree with it, since the study of history has played a very important role in our daily lives, especially including the development of our society and the evolutional progress of human beings. Therefore, taking more factors into account, the claim of the speaker is rather unconvincing.

Firstly, with the rapid development of modern society and the progress of technology and science during the last century, it is a great challenge for more and more traditional conceptions and the previous experience accumulated by ancestors. It is highly possible that many present conditions do not occur in the past long periods and the study of history might not provide the similar experience to instruct the new happens. Or, what took place in the past will may completely no exist in modern society. In that case, the study of history may lose its values to some extent. Let’s take the development and influence of internet as an example. On the one hand, it is universally acknowledged that the internet has greatly improved our lives and impelled the progress of our society during the past decades. On the other hand, there is no denying that the internet has also some negative influence on the qualities of our living. So, how can we abate or even finally eliminate the negative impact brought by internet? The study of historical periods that has no computers may not help us to solve the similar problems. However, we still should not ignore the influences on our lives and society brought by the study of history.

Secondly, history has played a crucial role in explaining and understanding change in human behavior and is closely relevant to our daily lives. For example, let’s look at an important phenomenon such as alcoholism. Attitudes and polices about alcoholism have gradually changed and varied and so history is indispensable to understanding why such changes occur. Historians have in fact greatly contributed in recent decades to our grasp of the dimensions of addiction as an evolving social problem.  

Thirdly, History also helps provide identity, and this is unquestionably one of the reasons all modern nations encourage its teaching in some form. Historical data include evidence about how families, groups, institutions and whole countries were formed and about how they have evolved while retaining cohesion. Histories that tell the national story, emphasizing distinctive features of the national experience, are meant to drive home an understanding of national values and a commitment to national loyalty.

Finally, there was something in history seems no relation to modern society, but it contains the import development rules of human society in essence.  For example, the study of the each reform and revolution of society has provided valuable experience for the following development and can avoid making the same mistake.

In sum, the studies of history not only do good to our daily lives, but also affect many other aspects, including the development of nations and society. Further, studying history may help us better to understand how recent, current and prospective changes.
