I17："There are two types of laws: just and unjust. Every individual in a society has a responsibility to obey just laws and, even more importantly, to disobey and resist unjust laws."

On the point of gaining this issue, I’m lost in contemplation, that is, whether there are the two types of laws or not and what the definitions of “just” and “unjust”. In my opinion, for an individual, laws should be obeyed whatever they are, and he or she has no right to judge a law just or unjust.  

Laws, whose definition in the Oxford dictionary is that “the whole system of rules that everyone in a country or society must obey”, should be obeyed whatever they are. Laws are rules, which go through a sufficient long time to test their feasibility and the functions in ordering and harmonizing the society. Moreover, laws must has it's authority in order to keep the world in good state. As all we know, the aftereffect of disobeying a law or even violating it is to be punished for it with the costs like losing one’s property and even the invaluable freedom. As a proverb word says “ all men are equal in the sight of laws”, so when a person disobey the laws he should gain punishment from the law regardless his or her background and his or her excuse for disobeying, despite the law is unjust as he or she thought.   

No individual has the right to judge what is just and
what is unjust, as the laws are the representatives of most people’s ideas. Take the history of laws as an example, it is a long and rough progress that going from autarchy to democracy, that is, from an era that emperor judge the justness to an era that all people have right to participate in the legislation through some ways. As not every individual can make accordance all the time, sometimes laws have to compromise to support the benefit of the whole society and laws will be unjust for the benefit of some people. If a common person has the right to judge the justness, the society will get into a state of complexity, such as Hitler, Pinochet Ugarte, whose autarchy brought sores all over the eyes to the world or their country.

But for a country, who have its special legislative and legislator, to legislate a just law is his duty could not be put off and shuffle. The society calls for just law, and unjust laws could be phase out in a peaceful way instead of people’s disobeying and resistance, if a society has a healthy mechanism of balancing the rights of the people and the gerentocratic. On the contrary, if such a mechanism is weak or lacked, before the achievement of that goal, we must obey the contemporary law whatever it is just or not.

So, as a conclusion, we must obey the contemporary law whatever it is just or unjust, and as an individual we have no right to judge a law’s justice. But for a society, we could do our best to make an unjust law phase out as long as it is all of us want to.
