Issue 5 “ Nation should require all its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college rather than allow school in different parts of the nation to determine which academic course to offer”



The speaker asserts that all the students should study the same national curriculum that the nation requires. Indeed some core curriculum will sever the purpose of the nation. Nevertheless, in my view it is also quite necessary to allow schools in different parts of the nation to determine which academic course to offer except the core curriculum. Otherwise, the education system will run risk in the long term.

As is well known to us that the primary school and the high school provide us the element knowledge. The core curriculum required by the nation can enlighten us to become well informed and help us master element skill which make us be useful people to the society.

Another reason is that when we graduate from the high schools most of us would receive the further education by attending universities. As we have studied the same core curriculum required by the nation, we are at almost the same knowledge level. It becomes easier to study the college courses.

Secondly, because we all study the same core curriculum we can get along with other the same years people, which will be benefit to the harmony of the society.

However, there are some problems if all curriculums required by the nation that need us to pay attention to.
First, it is different for the nation to make all its students to study the same curriculum, for that the economic condition of different parts varies differently. Consider, for example, students in southwest China where most people are quite poor, even cannot get enough to feed themselves. If China government require all its students should study the computer schools of the west China will face the difficulty that they cannot afford to buy computers for students, not to mention students’ family. Thus, it is difficult for the nation to determine the same curriculums for its students.

Secondly, different parts of the nation may have different tradition and culture. If the nation requires all its students to study the same curriculums the diverse tradition will vanish. We also take China as an example. In southwest China there are many minorities who speak different languages. The nation ‘s core curriculums cannot include their language course because their population is so small. Thus the minorities’ students have no chance to study their language, which will make their languages distinct. The nation cannot accept this result, not to mention the minorities.

In sum, although students of the nation study the same curriculums has certain benefit to the nation. It also has some fatal problems if we practice it. Thus we should get a balance point that the nation determine some core curriculums and allows schools on different parts of the nation to add some academic course to the core curriculums. It will make students of the nation well educated and is benefit to the nation and the society.
