Issu103【07-10G Superstar大帖】第18次作业 by Huaxinluobo
Does study of history have value only when it is relevant to daily lives, as the speaker asserts? I tend to disagree in the interpretaion that the speaker refer to 'study' as learning of history, instead of researching.(这个没有明白,你是反对还是同意作者观点?) While I concede that study of history bring about significant benefit to our daily lives, the value of study of history lies in other respects beyond daily lives.
Admittedly, for individuals, learning about and get a deep insight of history, including the development of a culture, stories of historic figures, significant events, can changes one’s view about the world, value, life and human self to a more rational and wide one. It is well known that in most times we learn by committing and correcting mistakes, then by study and analysis of mistakes and wrong deeds done by our predecessors we can make less errors and fouls in future. For example, knowing the sufferings and problems that racial discrimination have caused in past, we must be cautious and resistant to words by few racisms in nowadays. Moreover, individuals can obtain ideas and inspiration from great accomplishments like masterpieces in art, discoveries and breakthroughs in science, as well as the figures themselves. That can also explain why our education system encourages students, particularly young kids, to have their own idols in history. Students who learns the experiences and stories of great scientists that achieved highly in the development of science though distinguishing hard work are more likely to pursue a career in science and technology, or at least get inspiration in any other occupation when facing difficulty. The lives of other great persons like politicians, artists, thinkers and so forth can also encourage modern peoples in their daily lives.
With respect to the whole society, the speaker’s claim that study of history has value when relevant of daily lives holds merit too. In modern times we are faced with many problems and issues that have existed for quite a long time in human history, such as crimes, racial discrimination, drinking, wealth gap, population, and looking back to the past for measures former governments took and results of the measures can help people make decisions at this time. Once in the past people thought the gap between lower class and higher class in China was the result of undeveloped economy and productivity and insufficient concern and emphasis was put on the problem. However, later fact that as the country enjoys a fast-growing and more prosperous economy the gap between the wealthy and the poor is even larger than before, which proves the idea wrong and alternates current governments to take measure and make policies to control the wealth gap within a acceptable level. After all, study of history is beneficial to both individuals and society.
However,(?主语哪里去了?) is study of history useless if it is irrelevant to our daily lives? Absolutely not. One reason for my disagreement with the speaker lie in some most basic proposes of study of history. Beside(+S) the goal of benefiting now and future human kind, there are other goals, in which, as I think, an important one is merely to satisfy our curiosity about human past. For example, we visit the museums or watch pictures in books to see the tools made by stones, clothes made by furs that used by people quite a long time ago, or to see the written confusing words used thousands years ago, which, are hardly relevant to our daily life but we still like to do it because we are just cautious, then here lies the value. (?不明白,论证的没有上2段具体,感觉在忽悠)
To sum up, although study of history has value to our daily lives both to individuals and entire society, it is unfair to generalize that its value only lies in the relevance to daily lives for study of history has other values that are irrelevant to our lives.
