The speaker of this topic makes an assertion that, in order to afford more leisure time to people, the primary goal of technological advancement should be to increase people's efficiency. It's tempting when considering that people's life has been changed to be more convenient and efficient due to the improvement of technology. While this claim seems undoubted in abstract, it still overlooks some practical problems.

Admittedly, such technological advancement brings people with efficiency such as traffic which may engrosses days to travel from one city to another but now only costs few hours. High-tech makes some complicated things just as simple as a click: computer keeps us away from the numerous calculations, internet brings us much closer to the world, and telephone enables us contact with anyone we want immediately. Moreover, our entertainment replete with computer games and TV shows are most of the production of improvement of technology.

However, the primary goal of technological advancement should be the elevation of productivity and more wealth, but not the increasing leisure time. What if we only focus our attention on new technology creating more leisure time? We may still live in a low developed age just because many technologies, such as biotechnology, chemistry and medicine, are dispensable. But all such technologies can solve the basic problems in our daily life, ameliorate the working condition and accumulate the social wealth in a much fast way. For example, the reason why American can be the most powerful country in economics and army must lie on the high developed technology that concentrate on not only increasing people’s efficiency, but also other aspects. The very first thing we concerning is to settle it, and then, make the process more brief, which may as well as the purpose of technological advancement.

In addition, the advancement of technology, to some degree, has diminished our leisure time. The updating of high speed requires people to sacrifice their leisure time to study to excel in the competition. At no moment in history has the issue of pressure and weariness been a more common occurrence than now. Since the competition can be one reason of technological advancement, it enforces people get involved in the busy life. The demands of productions of employers never stay still but multiply as the advancement goes. The working time is on increase not decrease because of expectations of more profit. Creating of pipelining doesn't mean that the workers only have to complete the mission which may used to be one car but to increase the number of production in the same time as before. Moreover, the revolution of technology can be accompanied with unemployment-people do have nothing to do, but it is not so-called leisure time. Such phenomenon is quit common in 15 century when Industrial Revolution had created a burgeoning textile industry, farmers lost their land because of the large demand of wool. How can they enjoy their leisure time when suffering the poverty and hunger?

In sum, taking all the factors into account, technological advancement bestows us more convenience and efficiency, but deprive us of the leisure time instead of afford us more. Therefore, the main purpose of technological advancement should be defined as the advanced productivity and increasing social wealth.
