In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach.
------
提纲------
1.    一分为二看问题,有些学科可以,有些学科没有必要甚至有害;
2.    首先,,某些应用学科或与市场联系紧密的学科,教师的实际工作经验能促进学生实际工作能力增长,例子:工程学科,建筑设计学
3.    强化前面论点, 广告学
4.    另一方面,有些学科不需要。如文学诗歌研究等理论或形而上的学科
5.    强化论点, 指出校外工作使某些老师丧失原来的学术追求,追求名利,将学生也带入歧途,无人再愿意从事清贫而神圣的基础理论研究。
6.       总结,强调一分为二看问题,不搞一刀切。

      The author provide a plausible suggestion about how to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level. Admittedly, there are some merits if faculty can attend some professional works which have strong connection with their cources; However, it is still unpractical and unreasonable to ask all faculty take this way to improve the teaching quality. In my opinion, this method might work well when it happens in some majors or courses with strong requirement of practicing and close relationship with the real market and industries, such as Engineering , Chemical,  Architecture design etc; But , for many other cources which mainly focus on therotical issues and experiments in labs, the outside professional work will not improve the quality of education, to some extent , however, I afraid it will impede the development in these disciplines

     First , I generally agree to require teachers from some practical courses spend some time working outside in professions.  Why? The essence and objectives of these courses illustrate the importance of real professional experience and knownledge in education field. Take an example , the main object of architecture or egineering courses is to provide smart engineers or designers with strong professional skills , the students will become important human resource to contribute to the development of physical spaces in cities and whole country. The market and real projects will never provide occupations for those pedants who only can do some dogmatic papers or lectures, on the contrary, the persons who have strong ability to utilize their professional knowledge will find their places in market soon.  In such circumstance, if our students cannot have opportunity to get enough trainning for future's professional career, it is obviously , they will be deserted by real market soon. Meanwhile, our education on these fields will bear the responsibility focusing too much on the education of academic issues, in this sense, the professional work of faculty become reasonable and necessary.  

    Moreover, the case mentioned above is not unique, many other courses with particular also need faculty has enough professionl knownledge, just like practical chemical course, landscape architecture, advertising , maketing courses etc. The course of advertising is another meanful case to demonstrate the necessary of faculty's professional work. As we konw, the main function of advertising is to give strong recommend to consumers and clients. The final object of advertising is to lead a success of certain commerical brand or project. Admittedly , there are a lot of work to do for faculty in academic field, such as the research of Capitalism, chromatology,  phycology and behaviors, the framework of cost-income mode etc, but most important , the faculty should teach students have professional ability to apprehend the main commercial stream in market, the close-future and far-future of fashional goods , the tastes of different age classes and social classes etc. All of these conclusion need be done basing on the survoy and observation in real professional field, and only by taking real professional work , the faculty can teach students what he got from the practical work .

    On the other hand, in some other courses, it is not necessary to require faculty to do professional work at all. First, in some majors which need faculty focus on academic research and majors which have not pression to put into practice immediately , the outside professional work will reduce faculty's attention on his/her field and impede the continuous and contemplative research as well. A teacher whoes major is traditional literalture and poem has not necessary to join a publishing company or bookstore where sell his academic works, what he need do is focusing all his energy on the developing the depth and width of academic research. Second, the real professional work probably disturb the original academic object of some faculty in some situations, which will impede the improvement of education, even will ruin the academic courses sometimes. As we konw, many faculty, especially who focus on basic majors such as history, biology, literature , always have a lower salary than faculty whoes majors are practical fields. As a result , once they step into the professional field, they are more possibly been tempted /confused by the money or social classes which can bring honor and wealth. To make more money or get prominent status, Some of faculty will be inclined to doing commercial lecture, writing recreational books to pander the popular tastes,  even publish hypocritical words in newspapar or magazine on commercial issues for his/her own private insterests. Undoubtedly, their professional activities will not help the development of education, on the contrary, they will lead students to a wrong way, that is" money is most important in life" ;  Then, who can bear the real academic work at tomorrow? although it is solemn and significant for human's future.

   In sum , it is a comprehensive issue and we need consider it very carefully. In my view, it is helpful for some practical courses to require faculty to use some time to join the professional work which with close relationship with their fields; But,  for other faculty, it is unnecessary, even dangerous , to ask them take outside professional works. Just like every coin has two sides, we should not treat two things at same way.
