Are money spent on research all good investments even when the results are controversial, as the speaker asserts?(你这个和题目差不多啊,最好能有所变动) I can only partially agree. While I fundamentally support that spending large amount of money of research is reasonable and beneficial, I must point out all investment on research is fruitful and worthy and some controversial result sometimes is (复数)just the reason of failure.
Admittedly, for the interest of society and human kind, research should be given financial support by governments, organizations, companies and sometimes individuals. Look at the history of progress and development of human society we can easily find out that new discoveries and technology sever as the most significant role in changing human society toward a better world for human beings. In today’s world, the place of technology and science is higher than any society before ours. For many groups including governments, companies and so on, investing on scientific research seems like the only way to attain the advantage and priority in a world that encourage competition so much as ours. For example, for a country to defend itself toward invasion or maintain the peace of the region, modernized and advanced weapons are indispensable. And at the same time to get those weapons only by way of buying from other countries is insufficient— expecting USA to sell F-22 to countries like Russia or China, is no more than a dream. So in order to own advanced weapons any country must put money on related research by themselves. In commercial world, those most successful giants are all putting a high percent of every year revenue on research and product development to make them competitive in the arena. .After all, spending money on research is reasonable and necessary for any society and groups.
However, while I claim that we should put money on science, it is an undeniable fact that not all investments on research are good investments. Contrary to the speaker’s assertion, sometimes it is just the controversial results that make some money spent on research a failed investment, especially in the field of applied sciences. For instance, companies often fund some research on population, social culture and so forth to help the management make right decisions and plans about the future strategy, company image, new products, characters of potential customers, which in many cases demand clear results and thus help the leaders of companies make choices more effectively and in contrary, controversial result can often make things worse.(为什么它make things worse???能否举个具体的例子来说明)The condition is similar in politics for government frequently fund research in varies aspects of society and rely on the results of them to make policies and laws. So in many cases controversial results may lead to failed investments. (就因为他可能会失败,所以就不投资了吗?那没有争议的研究就一定能成功吗? 能否再找个更有说服力的理由呢?)
To sum up, the speakers assertion has merit insofar as claiming that money should been put on research. But not all money spent on it are good investments and in some cases the reason of failed investment is just controversial results.
你文章就是同意作者前面观点,否定后面的观点. 但是研究结果有争议这个例子没有说清楚, 比如你可以举clone (这个用的人比较多,你想看看还有没有其他更好的),把自己的理由说清楚来.
