26"Most people would agree that buildings represent a valuable record of any society's past, but controversy arises when old buildings stand on ground that modern planners feel could be better used for modern purposes. In such situations, modern development should be given precedence over the preservation of historic buildings so that contemporary needs can be served."



There are a myriad history sites in every cities, for example, in pari erect triumph gate which record the glory of France, in Londan erect the Big Ben which serve the landmark of london. Some people once preserving history site with mdern development, we should give priority to the latter. In my opinion, although modern development is unexpectional, we should not sacrify history sites causally.

In the first, it seems compelling to agree the author's viewpint asuming that history will impede the modern development. However, in many case, histry sites themselves are major tourism resorce which will attract many tourists. History sites are representative of the arctic feature in some era, which has significant beauty. for example, triumph gate is representative of arctic feature in era-Napole, which is different the modern building. Compareed to modern buildern buildings which look aimilar, histry sites are fresh, therefore they can satisty tourists' interest to physical beauty.

In the second, history sites is the proof of history which involves a nation's eplendor, glory and triumph. for example Piriad record the splendid culture of ancient Eypt, which is the pride of Egyptian. Thejoin memory about the same ancestors are the fontainhead of a nation's cohesion. Ancestors' exploit encourage the people to concur difficulty and beat enemy, especially when a nation is trapped in adversiy. Take Judism as a example, jew encounter the holocaust in world war two, at some degree, it is their joint memory about their ancestors that call for then stugle for freedom. As the example shows, history is preceless to a nation's survival and development, so we should pace enoufh to protect history sites.

last but not sthe least, we should immerse our effort in console the conflict between history sites and modern development. In many cases, whether historical sites conflict with modern development depends on the mold of modern development. Even if history sites locate in a place that is beneficial for modern development, it need not be town down. For example, if a history site locates in a place which a way will across, it is possible to build a subway to solve the problem. As for some hitory sites, which can be moved to other place and will not affect their value much, we can select a suitable place for it.

To sum up, history sites record the priceless history, which is legacy passed down by our ancestors, once damaged will be a irredeemable loss not to tampary teople but to our descants, so it is our duty to protect them.However, we can adopt effective action to eliminate the confliction between history sites and modern development.
