TOPIC: ISSUE130 - "How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."

Will the way that children are socialized largely determine our society's future, as the author asserts? Or is our current educational system not so well designed to fit this purpose? In fact, we can hardly get an answer before a better understanding about what character is needed for a better society; what can social ability contribute to it what is the current condition about our .  Below let us try to discuss in these respects.

First, what quality should our education intended to meet the needs of our society? Basically, for a better society, social ability is in high demand. The fast pace and ever increasing information reguires social abilities. In technology, the knowledge is so accumulated that we can hardly get a full understanding about the subject. It is often the case that several specialists work together to make a breakthrough. In business, it is the same. Before the vast sea of information, often, there should be someone who collect enough data, and who are expert at making this data into information, and finally one who make the wise decision based on the information. To make these steps transit smoothly, these persons should have a well developed social ability. In these areas of our society, social ability is in high demand.

Another basic quality that is needed for a better society is well-informed mind. This is the classical requirement. Even at the commencing of teacher, imparting knowledge from generation to generation is a key functionof education. In an era of rapid progress, the fast advanced technology also requires us having a wide foundation about our knowledge. For example, an engineer should first manage a series of knowledge before he can design a certain pattern of design. A manger should first learn the basic knowledge about economy and management before he can make the right decisions. The part that education played in imparting knowledge is the prerequisite that people in all these occupations can contribute to a society pacing forward.

Then let us back to our topic. Based on the two basic requisitions of a better society, what the role can it play that the way children are socialized? Undoubtedly it contributes a lot to the cooperation. Psychology has shown that childhood has vital influence in the formation of personality. A well socialized child is likely to be a well socialized adult. Think, for example, if little John in his youth had learned how to be a successful leader and could get quite well with his peers. Then when he grew up, these techniques are most likely to be remained. Therefore, although he might be a novice to his work, because of the expericence on social abilities, he might be expert in managing the intricate relationships and getting well with his workmates. This ability, as we have discussed above, is the catalyst of our society. Therefore when education focus more on how children are socialized, benefits of this kind will lead a promisng future of our society.

As to the second demand of our society-imparting knowledge, how children are socialized has rare to do with it. In these cases little about the specific knowledge is involved. When children are playing football and practicing their social ability, they are actually learning none of the rules of physics or the knowledge of math or things like that. Hence, although it is quite important, only the social ability of children can not fully decide the future of our society.

Finally lets come to the current conditions of our society.Unfortunately, although the social ability can not fully decide the future of our society, it has been laid too little emphasis on. For supporting evidence, you should do nothing by entering our campus. In classrooms, no matter teacher is in or not, groups of students are sitting there studying; in senior schools, there are even twelve lessons each day, from early in the morning till late at night, most of which are centered at our academic ability. Therefore, based on the discussion above, our education actually can not fully meet the need of our society.

In sum, from the discussion above, by analysis of the demand of contributing a better society and the characters of social ability and the current condition of education, we will find that only the social ability of children can not contribute to the future of our society, but it is still important to the future of our society, which too little attention is paid .
